"On the domestic front, Bush said he would not lobby the Senate to pass a constitutional amendment outlawing same-sex marriage." - from the January 15, 2005 interview with Bush for The Washington Post aboard Air Force One.
"For the good of families, children and society, I support a constitutional amendment to protect the institution of marriage." - from Bush's State of the Union address, February 2, 2005.
This, ladies and gentlemen, is a perfect example of how to play the political game. By saying he won't 'lobby the Senate' for the ammendment, he presents the illusion to the casual observer that he is backing away from his fundamentalist stance. But by turning right around and affirming in his address to the nation that he personally still supports this discrimination, he validates and solidifies his constituancy.
This is why he is in power.

It's a shame that with all of the money that the dems had they couldn't have found someone to run a better campaign. Everyone flip flops, it's a fact of life. Kerry did it on the record more than Bush, or so it was made to seem.
This is one (albeit important) issue. But Bush is notorious for "staying the course" on things, such as the war and other more "partisan" issues.
Regardless of the party, people want a decisive leader... Kerry was made out be (and to some extent is) not that man.

Keep telling yourself all the garbage and hate that you feel about him - it's only making the majority of the people in America realize how petty and irrelevant liberals are. It will be decades before you gain political power again because hate is guiding your every move.
