"On the domestic front, Bush said he would not lobby the Senate to pass a constitutional amendment outlawing same-sex marriage." - from the January 15, 2005 interview with Bush for The Washington Post aboard Air Force One.
"For the good of families, children and society, I support a constitutional amendment to protect the institution of marriage." - from Bush's State of the Union address, February 2, 2005.
This, ladies and gentlemen, is a perfect example of how to play the political game. By saying he won't 'lobby the Senate' for the ammendment, he presents the illusion to the casual observer that he is backing away from his fundamentalist stance. But by turning right around and affirming in his address to the nation that he personally still supports this discrimination, he validates and solidifies his constituancy.
This is why he is in power.
It is the double-speak of politics as a whole. Show me a politician who shoots straight, and I'll show you a crack whore without an STD.

Granted, JC - but while Kerry gets labled a 'flip-flopper', this man rises to the top.
It's a shame that with all of the money that the dems had they couldn't have found someone to run a better campaign. Everyone flip flops, it's a fact of life. Kerry did it on the record more than Bush, or so it was made to seem.
This is one (albeit important) issue. But Bush is notorious for "staying the course" on things, such as the war and other more "partisan" issues.
Regardless of the party, people want a decisive leader... Kerry was made out be (and to some extent is) not that man.
I thought posting pictures with no text went out with RodneyK. So last year. :)
So are you.
So am I? What am I?
I'm confused. Are you implying that I am "dumber" than a rock, much like that clever parody of the national Chevrolet ad? Or is that a reference that I am "so last year"? I'm sorry, I just want to categorize the completely unnecessary and unwarranted insult.
"oh, jim, that's gotta hurt. curtain went straight for a variation of the rubber/glue clause."
"yes, joe, i think he hurt jacques with that one. it'll be interesting to see if the frenchman can manage to answer back in kind."
If a picture paints a thousand words...
You liberals are so funny .. constantly underestimating the powers and ability of our great leader! Keep telling yourself all the garbage and hate that you feel about him - it's only making the majority of the people in America realize how petty and irrelevant liberals are. It will be decades before you gain political power again because hate is guiding your every move.
For a supposed bumbling idiot, he sure is doing circles around what little competition and ideas the left has to offer.
Now that's a funny picture! OK, if you haven't noticed ... I'm partisan
"joe, it's just gotten ugly ing there, now."
"you're absolutely right, jim. i thought it had sllipped with the rubber/glue invocation, but now they're just pulling out all the stops as jacques answers curtain's eye gouge with an atomic wedgie."
"ladies and gentleman, if you have children watching, i beg you for the sake of all that is holy, send them out of the room!"
Can't we just all get along?
Curtain, I can if you can

Chicago - with all due respect, is it really that difficult to understand the disillusionment of some people who feel very disenfranchised by this leadership?
'how petty and irrelevant liberals are'
I'm so glad you think that the civil rights of millions of Americans which are guaranteed under the 14th Amendement to the Constitution of the United States are petty and irrelevant.
Talk about being un-American.
As for me personally, I can see how my 20 year+ marriage is in any less meaningful. By allowing a commited couple to be married who just happen to be of the same sex. But that is just a thought
"oh no, joe, it seems that two members of the crowd, having seen the referee incapacitated by the latest entry into the ring, chicago, have now made their way into the cage."
"you're right! you're right! it looks like one of them is trying to reason with him and the other seems to be sneaking around behind him."
"i don't like the looks of this i can tell you that."
