Forget about good/bad/indifferent.
This thread is for the art directors, set decorators and cinematographers out there. I'll even throw in the CGI visualists who help create those sets and locations in films of the past 15 years.
I was just watching The Age of Innocence in high-def on my big, fat TV, and it was jaw-dropping. I'd forgotten how visually incredible it was.
In addition to Age of Innocence, I'll add the following:
The Red Shoes
Bram Stoker's Dracula
Black Narcissus
Cocteau's Beauty & the Beast
Marie Antoinette (MGM)
Gone With the Wind
Amadeus
Titanic
The Lord of the Rings (all three)
The Wizard of Oz
Hello, Dolly! (don't laugh--watch it on a huge screen and see if your jaw doesn't drop)
Restoration
The Tales of Hoffman
The Sound of Music
Dr. Zhivago
Metropolis
