If you think Jason Lee is raping your childhood, Romantico, I'd hate the know what you think of THIS lady!

What the hell is THAT???
It looks like a failed audition for WONDER WOMAN for a young Frances Sternhagen.

Posted: 12/5/07 at 11:29amI bought a Xmas cassette from one of those dump bins where every tape was $2.99 or something like that. It was called "Christmas with the Happy Hamsters" and was a shameless ripoff of the Chipmunk's. It made you long for the professionalism of Dave Seville. It was most effective at clearing the lingering customers from a busy store at closing time.

Posted: 12/5/07 at 11:31amOh my god, Joe, my roommate would love that. She loves the off-brand knock-off names of things. Her all-time favorite is a Goldfish Crackers knock off she found called Cheddar Whales.

Has she tried "Dolphins and Friends" cheddar crackers?
Christmas with the Happy Hamsters made me think of the Hamster Dance for the first time in years. Oy. I'm almost tempted to Google it to see if that site still exists.

No, but if you can point me in that general direction that's a stocking stuffer taken care of!
Talking about off-brand records made me remember some album my brother and I had as kids, which was some set of non-Muppet creatures doing songs from the Muppet Show. Odd.

My mom once bought a giant box of them at Costco, but we forgot about them on a top shelf in the pantry for about 6 months. Oops.

Posted: 12/5/07 at 11:56amOh my god, I love it. When I used to live in St. Louis there was an off-brand Dr. Pepper called Dr. Schnee.

Posted: 12/5/07 at 12:04pmThe worst were off-brand cereals: Nut and Honey Os, Fruit Hoops, Iced Flakes. A least Dr. Schnee showed some amount of creativity instead of just using a thesaurusized name of the real brand.

Oh, I love when the name is just a total knock-off of the original.
When I used to go to Six Flags as a kid they had a photo booth where they'd put you on magazine covers. Since they couldn't use the actual names, they had magazines like Playbody and Sports Illustrious.

My favorite was this green bottle of shampoo, made to look like Pert Plus (which was a damn cheap shampoo to begin with)
Whatever the brand name was, it was very small on the bottle. Below it, it said "shampoo PLUS conditioner." The word "PLUS" was the biggest font on the bottle, to trick you into thinking you're actually buying Pert Plus.

Posted: 12/5/07 at 12:26pmI loved the Chipmunks of my childhood (late 60s/early 70s). I have both their Christmas album and regular album.

Posted: 12/5/07 at 12:33pmNow that I'm an adult, it unnerves me a wee bit that the lyrics to the theme song told us, "We'll bring you action/and satisfication."

I actually preferred Elwee and the Tree Weasels as performed in The New Adventures of Mighty Mouse. God, that was a bizarrely wonderful show!

I actually have a stuffed Alvin that sings that song. Love it.

Okay, Unless I'm imagining things I think Alvin ate Theodore's $hit in the trailer. I'm slightly disturbed over that. Images of Divine come to mind. Maybe the producers thought kids would think that was cute.
