I think she's as qualified as Abdul was, but that's not saying much. I love Ellen, even wish they were still repeating her sitcoms, but I'm afraid that this will take away from her success. Just like there is such a thing as too much ice cream, there can be too much of even the most likeable performer. I think her talk show will suffer.
Her stint on SYTYCD was one of the few eps I watched last season and she was clearly not there to actually critique, but to entertain. Whether that was successful is up for debate...I actually found her much more entertaining than Mary Murphy or Adam Shankman who both make my skin crawl and often confuse me with their critiques.
Through her talk show, she's been a big booster for both AI and SYTYCD...and considering some of the guest judges and mentors they've had in the past, she should be more coherent at the very least. That goes for Abdul as well.
I do hope she isnt there just for the jokes, because that will get very tired, very fast.

Wait, wait, wait...whatever you think of Abdul (and I'm not a fan at all), let's not forget that she did work in the music industry and had several hit songs. By virtue of her experience alone, she's more qualified to judge the competition than Ellen.

Since Paula was the only judge people had heard of before AI, the producers probably wanted to replace her with another celebrity. Bernhard, unfortunately, is nowhere near a big enough name to replace the only pre-existing name on the panel. I personally think Ellen is a fine choice, considering they "had" to choose a celebrity.
I still think Ellen has more knowledge of music than Abdul, and perhaps the industry as well. She will absolutely be more coherent, as I said.
I'm actually a fan of noone replacing Abdul. I liked Kara, unless she was giving vocal lessons during auditions.
I don't know why they need a fourth judge either. Probably because the ratings are down? Are they?
and somewhere Paula is letting out an ear splitting,"F*CK!"
Jane - I don't like it either. It takes FOREVER for all of them to say their comments and the reason why certain performances were cut short to the tv viewing public last season. I say go back to 3

You've got the be kidding...
Yes Ellen will most likely be more coherent, but how in the word does she have more knowledge of music and the industry?? She already said she is there to give the "everyday person's point of view."
No. Get La Bernhard in there!!!!
I'm not kidding. Abdul was packaged as an artist, so she knows about that, and the industry to be sure, but that's it. Vocally she knows nothing and shouldnt be allowed to give advice on that subject.
My actual point, which I've muddled a bit, is that Ellen will supply the same amount of expertise and be more coherent. My implication was not that Ellen has been a recording artist, but that Abdul never supplied anything but jibberish.
I actually might watch AI for the first time in several years.
I love Ellen, but even her involvement can't get me to watch that show again. I gave it one season, I did my time, and now I'm done with it. Now, if they replace Simon, Ryan and Randy, I might think about it.
If they replaced Simon, I'd probably stop watching.
"Wow, I'm really surprised with the backlash. I think Ellen is going to do a fantastic job."
Me too. So what she doesn't have much music industry experience? That is what Simon, Randy and Kara are there for. She'll offer a lot of insight as to what the average viewer/listener will think. If it is any consolation, she understands the entertainment business.
What a bizzare choice. I'll probably still watch, though.

Because she's not borderline passed out every night.
