re: The official Bernadette Peters Love Thread

She's amazing. Seeing her in Gypsy was one of the greatest moments in my life. Truly breathtaking.

Her performance in Sunday is brilliant. I actually thought she was better than Mandy (and I love Mandy). Great in practically everything she's ever done, and I love her Broadway Baby and Being Alive. :)

re: The official Bernadette Peters Love Thread

Do ya'll know that she has a sister who is (or was, at least) a casting agent here in NY? My first Off b'way show was cast by her and I could have sworn they were twins - when she first walked into the callbacks I just about fell off the chair I was sitting in - I turned to the guy next to me and said - "I had no idea we have to sing for Bernadette Peters.." and he told me it was her sister and to calm down - which I did, and got cast!
Silly stories we remember about getting into the biz...
"I don't really get the ending, all i can go with is when after several months,Judith saw Pat sang, and later she kissed him on the toilet, after that the story back to where Pat went down from the stage after he'd sung, and he went to the italian lady.I just don't get it,what Judith exatcly meant when he kissed Pat that she had seen, and did Pat end up together with The Italian Lady? Please help me,thank u very much!" Quote from someone on IMDB in reference to a movie he/she didn't understand. Such grammar!

Like Dolly Parton's sister Rachel who did my make up at Grand Ole Opry Studios - for a Dance in America filming. Looked just like her!!!

Adding my love to BP. Seen her in SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE, SONG AND DANCE, INTO THE WOODS (in previews), ANNIE GET YOUR GUN and GYPSY. I loved her Dot the most and will tell you that she looked amazingly pretty when I was once in the elevator with her at City Center.

She's the last female Broadway star we have. Apart from the occasional movie and TV show, she has spent the last 40 years of her life predominately on the NY stage. She's just about the only female Broadway star who has a name that still sells tickets. And she was treated mighty shabbily by the New York theatre community during Gypsy. Hope she gets a knockout role very soon that will have everyone kissing her feet...she deserves it.

Idina is painfully shy.
She is also nervous at social events.
She can come across as a snob, but I think she is just shy and nervous.

I couldn't agree more Corine. Idina is a class act and I think people should just appreciate her talent and leave her alone.

I've seen Bernadette in many roles. The one that will always be near and dear to my heart was an off-broadway play called "Sally & Marsha. It wasn't a musical, it was a 2 woman show and I sat in the first row...which means I was almost on stage with her. The other actress in it with her was an unknown to me back then... Christine Baranski. It was at the Manhattan Theatre Club in 1982. I sent Ms. Peters a rose and a note and waited for her after the show. By the time she came out of her dressing room there was only my friend and me waiting and an older gentleman (a friend of hers)...she came right up to me and kissed me on the cheek and said "thank you so much for the rose" and then signed my Showbill which reads "With much love and appreciation. Bernadette Peters"...about 2 weeks later I received a manila envelope in the mail and when I opened it there was a 8" X 10" autograpgh picture of her. She is my Goddess and always will be. BTW...my favorite musical that I saw her in...if I had to choose one...would be "Song & Dance".

My favorite has to be Into the Woods. I just love her in this musical. Yes, I know Idina is shy, I am sorry if it sounded like I was bitter, just a little disappointment. But I guess that is why I love Bernadette so much. She is very personable. I mean she does the things like filling in for Regis and Kelly, but I couldnt see Idina doing this. It is just their personality differences.

re: The official Bernadette Peters Love Thread

I love Bernadette Peters. The first time I ever saw her was in the Mel Brooks movie "Silent Movie". I also remembered her from her guest shots on "Carol Burnett". My mom used to watch that show all the time and I remember they once had a parody of "The Exorcist" with BP as the Linda Blair character. I also remember watching "All's Fair", a short lived sit-com that she starred in with Richard Crenna. I must've been around 7 at the time.

Up until that point I had only known BP as a comedienne and movie actress. I really had no idea she did Broadway. When I saw a poster for SITPWG and I saw her name I was like, "WTF...isn't that the girl from 'The Jerk'?" It was then that I learned that she actually had started out in theatre.

Anyway, I think she's amazing because she's done so much and is so multi-faceted.

Marquise,

Let's see ALL'S FAIR aired in 1976, and you said you were seven, so that would make you thirty-NO, your age is YOUR OWN business. :)

Marquise,

I don't CARE about your memory--I'm never speaking to you again for implying Vivien Leigh was a nymphomaniac.

The Jerk! Who else could have played that role? That's the sign of great acting - you can't imagine anyone else in that role.

Well, Rath, they didn't cast her in THE JERK, TOO.

BP is amazing! I saw her in Gypsy and she was fantabulous...and she was REALLY nice to us afterwards. She's so talented. And obliging!

re: The official Bernadette Peters Love Thread

The Image I keep in my mind is of her in Sunday in the Park...so beautiful, vulnerable and glowing...and when she sang Move On with those tears streaming down her face - I just felt that it could never get any better than that, as far as performance goes - she is a wonderful, committed, talented and beautiful actress.
I saw her on a street corner a month or so ago and thought - wow - the woman simply does not age one bit....

re: The official Bernadette Peters Love Thread

The only negative thing I can say about this thread is that it's a year and a half too late!

She was unduly and unfairly excoriated on this and many threads for her revelatory performace in GYPSY.

One of the most overwhelming nights I've ever had in the theatre and I will cherish it always.

re: The official Bernadette Peters Love Thread

Too right, robbiej. Let's not forget the merciless cyber kicking she took for missing a grand total of 9 performances in the entire run, while nobody says nothing about Chenoweth's mahoosive absences during Wicked.
Nothing precious, plain to see, don't make a fuss over me. Not loud, not soft, but somewhere inbetween. Say sorry, just let it be the word you mean.
