I'll still be asleep when it happens, apparently. According to some time zone website, it will all end at once. It will be 11pm in eastern Australia and do the math from there. It will be 6am in New York and the east coast.

I took the day off. Trying to use up vacation days, but it aligns nicely!
I just got home from the office and am having a bowl of ice cream and a glass of champagne. (Why the heck not?!)
In truth, that evening is the beautiful Longest Night service at my church. (Episcopal)
The Service is our way of acknowledging profound losses, in the context of the Advent and Christmas seasons. We give thanks for our blessings, and we ask for remembrance and healing. We are also reminded of the hope that is integral to the Christmas story. It is beautifully quiet worship, with music and candles. There are prayers and readings, and I find it to be a very meaningful night.
Especially this year...

I'll also be asleep st the time, so if tomorrow is my last day on Earth I'm making it count. I'm visiting an old friend and will watch a holiday classic like Albert Finney's 'Scrooge'.

So it will be Dec 22 in three time zones when the world ends.

I'll be listening to REM's "It's The End Of The World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine.) I think that that's the perfect song to listen to on Friday.

I decided to take off from the office and just enjoy the glow of my Christmas lights indoors. If it's our last holiday, I can happily state that this past Christmas season, filled with friends, concerts, tours, plays and music has been the the nicest of my life, I'm truly appreciative.

I'm really touched and re-assured that everybody is taking such a calm and reflective approach to the end of All Things. (Except Tiny...)
Winston raises the all-important point of the right music for the big moment. I find nothing in my desert-island disks really meets the need. The recordings I want to listen to in perpetuity don't seem to capture the spirit of the End.
EDIT: I think I'm going with Nina Simone--'Sinnerman'

When that evangelical group predicted the end of the world a couple of years ago, I was seeing a show on 9th Ave that someone from our board is on.
It was the weekend of the Ninth Avenue food festival, I was thinking "This is awesome, I can eat everything I want and not worry about weight gain, the world is ending Wednesday."

The world ending tomorrow would be a completely fitting end to an awful year. I welcome it.

Nope, all time zones end 12/21 except for two that end one and two hours before midnight. No one makes it to the 22nd.

My plan for tomorrow is to find a new calendar. My old one finally needs to be replaced after 5126 years of use. So much more efficient to buy one calendar my descendants will be able to use for millenia than buying those wasteful 12 month calendars every year.

Mr. Bates--shouldn't that map be adjusted to reflect the various time zones predicated on midnight in the Mayan Empire--i.e. Guatemala?

Isn't that map wrong? How can it be the 20th in New Zealand and the 21st on the East coast when they're at least 15 hours ahead? Or maybe I'm reading it wrong

I'm confused too. According to my iPod, it is 6:19am in Auckland, New Zealand and 4:19am in Sydney, Australia. That puts them 16 & 18 hours ahead of us.
