It's been said that necessity is the mother of invention, but whoever believed that probably never flipped through a SkyMall catalog. Considering the amount of needless products, superfluous warnings and redundant speech we see and hear each day, it's clear that most things in our lives can't be chalked up to necessity. Do we really need to be told not to drink from a urinal? Aren't green lights self-explanatory? Just how much packaging does an SD card require? Proving just how much of the world is comprised of extraneous objects and actions, this gallery will make you shake your head, roll your eyes and ask, "Was that necessary?"

There's an entire industry set up to pitch up shaite that we don't need.
Somewhat related, my dad is fond of saying that the only things we make in this country still are personal grooming products and bad movies.

Posted: 7/30/13 at 6:10pmThe sad thing is, for every instance, something happened where the sign or notification probably became required.

I've always said I am waiting for them to put warnings on bottles of water saying "Do Not Inhale" and they actually have a sign in there that asks people not to breathe underwater...

I'd also imagine that some of them were posted not because they really were necessary, but someone had some time on their hands and felt like being a smart-ass.

This is another reason why there are so many stupid people alive. It used to be a natural thinning of the heard.
But, now they have warning labels on EVERYTHING!

So, they have to put a warning that peanuts may contains peanuts?!
Next thing you know, they will be saying there is some potato in potato chips, or corn in corn bread!!
Where will the madness end????

I always assume those ridiculous notifications are the result of a lawsuit.

It's like the mayor of San Diego saying that the city should pay for his sexual harassment lawsuit because they never given him a class telling him that you can't attack women.
Every day this country get a little more stupid.

The bridge across the ditch might be an ADA requirement if the ditch is on a public property (golf course, park, etc).
Just a thought.

Posted: 8/1/13 at 3:18pmIt could also just be a decorative feature on somebody's property that just happens to have some functionality. Again, not uncommon and not something I would deem unnecessary.
