Third Batman Movie:Johnny Depp as Riddler, Phillip S.Hoffman as The Penguin

"Well, some reports claim that Johnny Depp is being offered the role.

And with the success The Dark Knight has has had at the box office, making over $440 million worldwide, the producers don't think they'll have a problem convincing Depp to take the role.

A source says the producers "are convinced that the role of the Riddler is perfect for Depp. Johnny's a pro. He'll be able to take direction from director Chris Nolan and still make the character his own."

They also plan on revisiting another one of Batman's enemies, the Penguin. And according to insiders, they are hoping the role goes to Oscar winner Philip Seymour Hoffman."

Why would they even bother with The Riddler? He's way too similar to The Joker. And Johnny Depp? Pleeeeease?

There will be spoilers in my post about The Dark Knight.

Considering Nolan hasn't agreed to do a third film yet, speculation at this point isn't even worth doing. I wish they had extended Harvey Dent's presence, so that he would be apart of a potential third film. I would love to see Hoffman as the Penguin! Pulling out the Riddler would be better further down the line. Right after having the Joker it would seem like a retread. I was hoping for a Harley Quinn appearance, which might still be possible because the Joker's fate is undetermined by the end of the Dark Knight.

I've heard that Nolan publicly announced he will not recreate the penguin because he hates the character....

And I agree with cruelsandwich regarding the riddler! Personally, I'd love to see them tackle something one would expect to be a little less realistic and make it more realistic! (i.e. a realistic Mr. Freeze or Poison Ivy; obviously not in the style of Schwarzenegger and Thurman though). I think Harely Quinn could work, but I would rather see something other than the clown theme.

I agree, Harvey would have been great if they drew him out for a next film. Maybe have him turn into two face right at the end of Dark Knight and give him a whole other movie to play around with.

How can Chris Nolan NOT do a third? With all the money Dark Knight has made they should just give him a blank check.

I'm not even sure they'd be able to top Dark Knight. Plus Heath Ledger's gone so there's nothing they can really do with The Joker.

They could maybe get someone who vaguely resembles Heath Ledger, put him in make-up, and just show him for a brief moment in Arkham or something. But I really hope they're done with The Joker. No other actor could do what Heath did.

They could use the Joker as a setup for the beginning of the third film. Shoot an actor from behind so all you are really seeing is the costume, hair and makeup and have someone talking to him. The only think I can think of doing from there would be introducing Harley Quinn, but I think she'd have to be a minor villain paired with a much larger villain like Penguin or Riddler...

they should just abandon the joker all together, for obvious reasons!

I wonder if they'll add a new female character now that Rachel is dead (and there are no other major female players)... or maybe this will lead to a female villain!

I hope they abandon the joker. There is nothing more to be said about him. For that matter, how can they top Dark Knight? They could do the Frank Miller Dark Knight returns, batman in the future, but I doubt they would do that. Maybe the "Hush" storyline?

Why couldn't he? It looked to me like Dent/Two Face was breathing after his fall and that doesn't seem like the type of thing that would have been lost in the editing process.

Harvey Dent may be dead, but Two-Face is very much alive.

I've never seen a Batman movie, and I don't think I ever will unless it involves Patti LuPone playing Lola Lasagna. They need to make the character more villainous, though. And super Italian.

I am pro Angelina Jolie as Cat Woman and Johnny Depp as the Riddler [ although I think this should hold off for a bit and I thought that Jim Carrey's portrayal was near perfect.]
