Jolie is exactly who I was thinking would be perfect. But, it's also an obvious choice and Nolan seems game for surprising choices in the casting.

I think with what happened that Joker was caught and ultimately the Death Penalty. Also can Johnny Depp please NOT be in this? I'm so sick of his name everywhere for every role whether he can do it or not. I would really like to see Danny DeVito do Penguin again but if not.... Toby Jones he played Ollie in the The Mist and Karl Rove in W. He's short and could pull off a penguin obsessed Villain.

Edit: It appears he was also in The Frost/Nixon movie.

Hoffman is a genius choice. Though I think these two villains are both a bit showy to be in the same movie together. I'm a bit Depped out at the moment.

Then how about Rosie O'Donnel as Catwoman?

Jon! I totally thought the same thing...Barbara Gordon!? She's Batwoman in the original series and she's his daughter!

THERE COULD BE SPOILERS FROM HERE DOWN...WARNING :)

Some people are thinking that Lucious' quick comment about the new suit being able to withstand a cat was a tip to the next movie. I will tell you that Catwoman is one of my all-time favorite villains...so I would be ecstatic! Joker is one of my others and I think that Heath was STUNNING in the role.

Someone said Michael Keaton should be Batman again, but he's too old! This is all supposed to be still in the beginning stages of Batman's "career", Michael Keaton just wouldn't work anymore.

I've thought about this a lot and I think that since Heath died while they were still in post-production and the editing process, hopefully they were smart and decided to either cut some scenes or save some footage so that they can piece together a short storyline with the Joker in the beginning of the next one. There's a quote on IMDB.com where Michael Caine is talking about the first time he saw Heath in full-costume. The quote talks about when Joker shows up at the Wayne mansion and that Heath was so scary that Michael forgot his lines at first. A)The Wayne mansion wasn't rebuilt in this movie. B) The Joker and Alfred never interact. Alfred was at the fundraiser when the Joker showed up...but they didn't interact at all. So IF that quote is for real, maybe there were other scenes or they shot ahead and they would have some footage for the next one.

Just a thought. :)

They'd be wise to not put any deleted scenes involving the Joker in the DVD extras for The Dark Knight, just so they could do what you just suggested lusciouslace.

LOL. Death penalty for the Joker. Oh. That's rich. No, that's what Arkham is for.

It looked to me like Dent/Two Face was breathing after his fall

In IMAX, twice, sitting close to the screen (hard not to do in IMAX), during a shot of him in which his chest took up about half the screen...he wasn't breathing, as far as I could tell.

If it's going to have Depp, they might as well bring back Burton to direct. His Batman films were the best, after all.

I'm sure Nolan will do a third one. His seeming uncertainty about it right now is a way for them to pay him more money.

I would love Jolie as Catwoman, provided the costume looked like the one Julie Newmar (and briefly, Eartha Kitt) wore, and note Michelle Pfeiffer's bizarre costume. They need to bring back the spangles and that belt that hangs on her hips!

Since we're discussing Lola Lasagne and Louie the Lilac...think of the treasure trove of villains they have from that TV show....we could go with Chandell (Liberace!), Egghead, King Tut (they could get Jack Black!!), or some of the more bizarre ones like the Minstrel, the Clock King, or the Sandman.

It's not impossible that his wife and daughter have the same name. It's not only fathers who pass down their names.

I hope they don't do the Penguin in the next movie - he's always been my least favorite of the villains. Catwoman is great (though after that abomination with Halle Berry, they need to be very careful) and I always enjoyed the Riddler. Really, all the villains from the TV show have the same motivation in the end - what made The Dark Knight so interesting was it flipped that idea on it's ear: the Joker didn't seem to have anything more than chaos in mind. In fact, it seemed his whole reason for acting the way he did was because he didn't know WHAT he wanted, other than to cause a disruption on a massive scale. The fact that they could create such a solid story around him and Two Face gives me hope that if they did do the Riddler it wouldn't just be the same old thing again. Besides, Nolan is a genius - I can't see him signing on to do a movie if it came out that similar...

Completely random, but...

does anyone remember the incredibly politically incorrect episode they did on the 60's series, when the men were all fired and a radical feminist named Policewoman Mooney took over control of Gotham City? Chaos reigned (I think she had Batman arrested, and Alfred had to spring him), but in the end, the men came in and straightened everything out.

Wonder how that would play in 2008?

The beauty of the Nolan films is that they are working off of the COMICS, which are extremely dark. The Joker from this film is the joker from the comics. Why would Nolan want to go off the tv show when it would not fit THIS batman series at all???

I can't wait until he brings in Bane (and not the crap that we got in Batman and Robin). I want the genius Bane, not a crappy dopey idiot. Catwoman is also a good idea.

I was just about to say that, Taryn, thank you.

I have to say, I'm bummed that Robin won't show up in any of the Christopher Nolan-directed movies. He's my favorite character.

So after they made 2 face they are just gonna write him off? Thats pathetic! But I do like the idea of Maggie Gyllenhall(sp?) as Catwoman, through a mix into it!

ucjrdude- Two-Face wasn't really a villain as much as he was a symbol of the hope of Gotham once again being lost. No need to keep him once the message was delivered (and a much more powerful moment on screen, no one has the chance of saying "Well, he might be evil now, but he'll change")
