The practical effects and sensory overload in drug trippiness of the original is why it is so great. That will probably go over the head of the producers who will demand CGI.

That movie is just fine as it is. I think the cost of making movies these days make Producers want to go with safe, comfortable properties. Ones they know will have an audience straight off. Less to lose.

Ugh. They're remaking Poltergeist? That movie is why I still can't eat chicken on the bone.
