YWIW, I can start writing my LSAT again in October of this year. If I don't wind up going to school this fall, I don't know if I even want to go into law at all! I'll have to explore some other career options, much to my excitement (but more to my chagrin). The momentum has died. I would've rather started school this past fall until that didn't work out. And this fall would've been alright. But I feel like I'll be over the hill if I start in 2007 (even though the average first year age is something like 27). I wrote out all these goals for myself when I was still in high school and one of them was to be a practicing lawyer by the time I was 24 and that's not going to happen anymore.
Nic, I'm about to head out for dim sum and drown my sorrows in dumplings!
No more alcohol for me!
SOMMS darling, absolutely. And if that doesn't work out, I'll happily mail you a crate of eggs! (Appropriately rotting by the time they get to New York!)
"I'm off to two different dental appts and one doctor and then work. Oral surgery, 9 tooth bridge, and a new case of asthma."
Oh my God! You had me at "two different dental appts". You win! Eccch!
Alright guys, off to dim sum to crack the news to my parents.
I can't believe Calgary wouldn't take me. CALGARY??? Like I'd want to be there anyways. What IS there except snow and cowboy---DAMMIT, I wanted to go to Calgary!!!
Tiff, everything happens for a reason, and I have faith that it will work out the way it should. I'll talk to you later, I'm off to appt. #1! xoxox
You could sublet lildogs apartment for the summer and hook at 44th and 9th.
Oooh, fun! In that case, you'd best second guess the dim sum.
Man, I'm vicious...Seriously though, would the sublet be feasible for you? I don't think you can argue with that price!
How did your appts go, Jane??
SOMMS, funny you should say that - I saw the sublet thread this morning while I was watching Oprah, who was talking to Lisa Ling about the prostitution trade in the US. $300-$4k on a "good night"?? I could pay that sublet rent in a day!
Nic, are you considering the sublet? I think it's in Brooklyn but you were planning on getting your passport anyway, right?
Tiff! Sheesh, haven't seen you here in ages!
Did you hang out with Mr. Bailey last night?
Hi DD!
Yeah, it's partially work, partially a life, and partially that the boards aren't what they used to be.
I gave Mr. Bailey a booty call last night and remembered why I stopped drinking in January! I was redder than George Michael in a public bathroom.
For some reason, many of my asian friends could not drink without turning red.
They usually resorted to the herb instead.
Jane, I hope all of your appts turned out OK.
Work - UGH. Double UGH.
It's true, YWIW! Apparently Asians lack some sort of enzyme that helps the body absorb alcohol which is why many of us go beet red so quickly. It doesn't help that my family has a history of alcohol allergies (the redness goes to vomiting and hives fairly quickly!). I thought if I drank in small doses every couple of weeks, I'd eventually develop a tolerance but so far it seems like it's only gotten worse!
Hehe.
In college, my friend Tina turned into a beet after a couple of sips!
She stuck with her herbs.
I hope your day gets better Tiff. Law school is not for everyone, and maybe it is a good thing that you have to think about what you really want to do.
Hopefully, you will find something that will fulfill your dreams for what you want. That is what is most important. If it is being a lawyer, then you are still a youngin and have plenty of time. If it is something else, then it is something else.
Hang in there. And, no more Bailey's.
If I didn't quit the "herbs" in college I would take them up again so I'd be able to join in on the fun when we go out on the town!
Now that you mention it though, I've always wanted to do a job that would allow me to travel (and - almost as fun - PLAN the travel). I'm thinking of looking into becoming a travel agent in the fall if law school and film doesn't plan out. Travel brochures and tour books are my porn! Need someone to arrange that trip to HK?
Options... there are so many options. Hell, I just recently figured out what I want to be when I grow up. Now I just have to get my butt into college... and hope I finish before my mid-40s.
My sister is a travel agent back home... she books high-end vacations for an international company. She does very well.
I would love to have your sister's job! I adore planning vacations - I've planned camerangel's trips and I'm helping to plan my parents' Europe vacation for the fall. I figure if I enjoy doing it so much for FREE, imagine getting paid for it!
When will you be going back to school? What's on the horizon for you?
trying to get into community college to get my first two years of engineering, then hopefully to the UW for civil engineering. I was hoping to start in the Fall, but might have to wait until Winter.
Other than that, softball is keeping me busy, and as soon as that is done I go into choreographing Annie.
Wow, civil engineering! That's what my Dad did and he really enjoyed it. What determined this career change for you?
That was my original career choice, but when I got out of high school I was way to unfocused. I went to engineering school for two years, but didn't get very far, and ended up dropping out. Just pursuing one more dream...
Are you going to have to quit your current job, or take night classes at the community college?
Night classes... plus I work in an engineering firm as it is, so they'll work with me once I get to the UW. I couldn't affort to quit work and go to school full time.
Is the goal to be promoted within the department you work in now("vertically", as they call it) or move "horizontally" within the company? (Same "level", different job description and responsibilities, etc.)

Tiff!
Definitely upward. I currently work in the marketing department.
Exciting! So by 2010, you could own your firm!
BSO!
Oh honey, I wish! It'll be at least 6 years. 2 full time in CC and 4 PT at the UW.
Do you get an associate arts degree/diploma from the two years at CC? That's gotta count for something, right? Will you get to do co-op terms? (Would you want to?)
