June 13, 2008 --

Tim Russert, NBC journalist and political heavyweight host of "Meet the Press," has died after collapsing at NBC's Washington news bureau, a source said. He was 58 years old.

Russert, who rose from the inside world of politics where he was former New York Gov. Mario Cuomo's press secretary and one-time chief of staff to the late Sen. Daniel Patrick Moynihan, was able to successfully cross over to political journalism and rise to become one of its leading lights.

In his role as host of the seminal Sunday morning political program "Meet the Press" - which he took over in 1991 - he became renowned for his hard-nosed interviews where he frequently cornered some of Washington's cagiest political figures with tough questions.

This is a major shocker, and a huge blow to the news community.

I just had the pleasure of seeing Russert moderate a symposium featuring John Edwards and Rudy Giuliani a few weeks ago. He was a very funny, very dedicated guy and a titan of the modern media.

A sad, sad day.

Was he a smoker? Did he have a heart condition? SO sad. Of course, this will take any thunder away from the R.Kelly verdict. So sad.

I really enjoyed his journalism. He made things simple and clear. Enjoyed his delivery very much. This is quite a shock!

Russert was not a smoker, but had other risk factors. On a personal note, I've worked with him on a local fundraiser for the past three years and he was a warm and delightful individual. Always rolled up his shirt sleeves and went above and beyond the call of duty. He was a generous benefactor and good friend to our school community. We will miss him dearly.

Cheyenne Jackson tickled me. AFTER ordering SoMMS a drink but NOT tickling him, and hanging out with Girly in his dressing room (where he DIDN'T tickle her) but BEFORE we got married. To others. And then he tweeted Boobs. He also tweeted he's good friends with some chick on "The Voice" who just happens to be good friends with Tink's ex. And I'm still married. Oh, and this just in: "Pettiness, spite, malice ....Such ugly emotions... So sad." - After Eight, talking about MEEEEEEEE!!! I'm so honored! :-)

He just came back from a vacation in Italy with his family and was back at work. So sad, but he was a towering figure of integrity during difficult times for network news.

So sad to watch on CNN, you can't help but feel their pain as they lost a beloved friend and colleague.

And it was so sad that they had just spent that holiday Italy right after his son's graduation from BC.
