I just saw a commercial for a made for TV movie called "Tin Man" that is set to air on the sci-fi channel on December 2nd.
Has anyone heard anything about this? Is it a film told from a different point of view but still includes events from The Wizard of Oz? Does it include the story told in Wicked (I would asume not since most Tv audiences have not seen the show).

Geek's correct. It is darker. But it's more than updated. It's a futuristic, sci-fi version. The character names are all different and they are all only loosely based on the original characters. they are more like typical sci-fi characters. It seems to be really loosely hung on the framework of the original story.
Alan Cumming stars as Glitch, based on the scarecrow. The character bio reads: "Once a genius inventor and member of Lavender Eyes' inner circle, the good natured but confused Glitch had half of his brain stolen while he was imprisoned in Azkedillia's torture chambers."

It's a mini-series, correct? (Which I suppose isn't anything vastly different from a television movie).
I'll be watching it for Alan. ♥

Posted: 11/21/07 at 2:10amI saw an ad for this on here, actually. Probably the only ad I've actually clicked on. It looks interesting...I'll DVR it. I have to admit, Alan Cumming being in it is a big selling point, for me.

That is a joke, right?

I clicked around their Web site for a while and read all the blurbs on the story and main characters... watched a few scenes from the series they have posted...
Basically, I was there long enough to decide I wasn't interested in it. If it succeeds on its own terms, fine I guess. But as an extension of the Oz cannon, it's failed already. The only reason for the tie-in to Oz seems to be for the "recognizability factor." In other words, a marketing scheme. There's no other reason for the Oz connection, and you can (barely) call it that.
