Now let's attack people who talk loudly on cell phones in public.
I think they should be punched in the face and their cell phones confiscated and destroyed.

Not that that has anything to do with this story, Joey, but,
Hear, hear!
And I mean that literally.

That just makes my blood boil. I'm like, "low class trash, have some consideration."

Posted: 1/24/07 at 8:35amSO TRUE! There used to be a student at my school who had one of those and all morning you could hear the annoying highpitched BEEP and muffled speech and then she'd unclip it from her belt and respond, in the middle of us trying to do other things. It got confiscated from her a few times, Ithink.

tink I agree, it's almost like saying they (the airlines) were saying they were in some way responsible.
If they won't let a mad dog, or a drunk on a plane, a kid who is acting-out should also not be allowed onboard

Did you SEE the little girl on GMA? She was squirming around, pulling her dress over her head, acting exactly like an out of control brat.
I'm with D2--that sh!t would not have one over with my parents--I'd been left in the grocery store, spanked 70s style in the TG & Y...no comments from the Peanut Gallery, thanks.

Lildogs, my parents would have reacted the same way.
and I agree!

Posted: 1/24/07 at 10:33amHell, I still can't bring myself to swear in front of my parents now, let alone pull crap like that when I was younger.

LOL Borstalboy.
Good for the airline for kicking them off the plane, but why did they give them free roundtrip tickets? That makes it sound like the airline is admitting they were wrong. Refunding the cost of their flight was enough.

I'm with PJ on the phone thing as well. And I LOATHE folks who are driving and talking on the phone at the same time. I almost got hit by a woman the other day, and her damn phone NEVER left her ear.
I called the police later to find out exactly what the law was that covers this, and I was told it's illegal, period.
Now I have a sign in my car I hold up to people as I pass them. It reads, "You are breaking the law by talking on that phone, moron."
I'm sure I'll be shot at within the month.

Theatrediva, I can relate. I walk to work everyday, and you don't know how many countless individuals run red lights because they're busy talking on the phone. I even spoke with the police captain at my local precinct about this. He agreed with me and said it's a big problem. Talking on a cellphone and driving is illegal in DC, but I have to see anyone getting tickets for it.
I'd love to see the reaction of the drivers who are on the receiving end of that sign.

Hey DG I didn't see the GMA piece, but I did read another news article about this where the parents said something about how maybe the ear surgery the child had just had had something to do with it. Which makes me go "you're taking a child who just had ear surgery on an airplane?!?"
No clue how long ago 'just had surgery' was, though- hell from what I've seen of these folks their kid could have had ear surgery the day after she was born three years ago, and they'd be using it as an excuse as to why it's just too hard for their little precious to have to be buckled in and not be rolling around on the floor, crawling under chairs, hitting her parents while she's on a plane waiting for takeoff.

the toddlers & infants legal defense association (tilda) announced today that it was launching a multi-million dollar discrimination suit against airtran airways on behalf of elly kulesza after her recent indignities at the hands of the corporate giant. elly and her family were forcibly removed from their flight after elly's natural fear of airplanes manifested itself in a crying jag. lead attorney on the case, 3 year-old emile jacoby released the following statement, "airtran bad, bad, bad! we want money. pretty money."
an airtran spokesman declined to comment on this report, but anonymous sources within the company fear that this incident will be a worse black eye than the recent "flying imams" scandal.

Posted: 1/24/07 at 11:35amre the cell phone thing. I'm walking down the street and a woman along side of me has her phone set so everyone has to hear the other person talking as well as the woman. I asked her why she did that and she became furious at me for asking. "If I don't do that, I can't hear the other person talking!" she claimed.

Yea, the cars rolling though intersections is a pain, as well as folks who speed down LaBrea, weaving in and out of traffic, like it's the Autobahn, and talking on a cell phone the entire time.

Talking on a cellphone and driving is illegal in DC, but I have to see anyone getting tickets for it.
That's because the redlight cameras are catching them when they drive straight through.
