I was replying to a post on this thread.

And I shop for all of my media at indie stores/chains because of personal ethics and principles. I will not give into huge corporations that go to any lengths to and have no shame in manufacturing consent, which is the propaganda used to brainwash the public into buying their stuff, ie giving them -- these huge corporations -- more and more money so fat executives can get even fatter, which is what it all really comes down to ... everything also goes in a cycle; it all goes back to the government. Take a political science class if you want to learn about a lot of this stuff.

I love supporting places that give a lot more character to a community and/or give back to communities; and if morals and ethics do not have anything to do with this, then I might as well stop fighting for what is right, glue rose-colored glasses to my head, and watch the world go down the tube. I am not totally depressed; I do see the positives in many things. But, I am also not blind, and will not stand by while immoral, un-ethical and just plain wrong practices are going on around me.

I am sorry if many of you disagree.

That's fine if you support independents because of your morals and ethics, but please do not tell me what is moral and ethical. It comes off as very preachy, and you have no right to tell me what is moral and ethical. I will decide for myself.

I read it, and I don't disagree with you, but that still gives you no right to preach to the board what you consider moral and ethical.


Also, I have one other question: In my town, there are not many music stores, and none of them carry the music that I like to listen to. So, should I go to Barnes and Noble or order it from Amazon, or sould I just not get the CD because it is not "moral" or ethical". I fail to see why stopping at B&N or ordering something from AMazon once in a while constitutes as "immoral".

I never said that "you" were unethical/immoral; my point is that these corporations are immoral/unethical, and implied that if there are indies nearby, it is a much much better idea to shop there.

And another option is to forego amazon.com and get your books off a shop on http://www.booksense.com ... if there is not a booksense certified shop near you, just choose a shop further away.

Shopping at indies is the ethical thing to do; it is not just based on what is immoral and unethical to me and only me .... that is all :)

Pretty tough words and judgement for someone who supports Whole Foods. You are all for the "good, organic" produce and stuff, but yet you don't seem to care that they (Whole Foods) does not give domestic partner benefits or support the people that actually pick that produce for you to enjoy with health benefits. Talk about unethical and immoral.

I always look at the larger picture ... one can argue small technicalities about anything forever, but what is the right choice, you know? That is key.

If we are to make a better home for ourselves, we "must" look at the larger picture and long-term benefits.

I don't care if you percieve me as this psycho or something; doing what's right and making people aware by any -- non-violent, that is -- means necessary is always respectable. It is these people who will make this world a better place.
