Trader Joe's there would be a fabulous idea. I could stop on the way home since my bus and subway stop are right there and not have to schlep stuff from Union Square.
The one in Union Square is waaaay too small for the demand IMO. The lines are insane, even just before 10pm when they close, though they move fairly fast, at least for the 12 items and under line. I asked them one day if they had plans to expand or find a bigger spot, but the guy I asked had no idea, he said.

In my area at least, Whole Foods has gotten more and more popular, which is so awesome ... and especially since more and more people are finally waking up to the environment and thus realizing the importance and benefits of organic/all-natural foods ... recently, they even opened near my school the largest Whole Foods in the area.
I really do wish that Trader Joe's would catch up. As demand grows higher, it only makes sense.

And yet - not awesome enough to offer domestic partner benefits like Trader Joes. But - for a company based in Texas - what do you expect?
Not what it's cracked up to be...

Posted: 4/8/07 at 1:49pmVisiting my sister some time ago, the old Tower store still had a "everything must go" sign, and I got excited that I could still get some thinbgs, but as I approached the store.....everything was already gone. Sigh.....I miss that store

A gym? We have Reebok, The JCC and more. We need a Trader Joe's.

Posted: 4/8/07 at 11:44pmYes you do need a Trader Joe's. And the one downtown here is too tiny!

Posted: 4/8/07 at 11:48pmSomeone want to fill me in on what Trader Joe's is?

Posted: 4/8/07 at 11:53pmit's basically a grocery store, not unlike Whole foods, except it's MUCH cheaper, and every product they carry is of quality-whether it's their frozen entrees or their toiletries.

Trader Joe's needs to fill that space! Also, it will make more competition with Fairway and maybe Fairway will go back to having decent deals.
Fairway stopped all the deals like 2 for one chickens because they have no competition. Trader Joe's would make them lower prices.
We need Trader Joe's. I hope someone from Trader Joe's reads this!!!!
Call Trader Joe's and tell them you want them on the UWS!

Posted: 4/9/07 at 9:02amI have issues with the Fairway on 74th and Broadway. I went there yesterday and it is just utter chaos. The space is too small. People are bumping into each other. They don't stock up soon enough. I left and went to Harlem. The Harlem Fairway is where it's at. That place is huge and spacious and stocked up the wazoo. I could LIVE in The Cold Room. Plus the Harlem Fairway has more of a selection of less expensive options than is available at the UWS store. I'd be willing to try out Trader Joe's though, if it comes to the UWS. What I like about Fairway is their amazing selection of Kosher meats.

It really is ... a tragic and extremely cruel reminder that more and more people need to shop locally and support truly independent chains; to support "real" progress.
It is the moral and ethical thing to do.

I don't really care if you bump these threads, but can you stop saying this. Supporting independents has nothing to do with morals and ethics.

I was replying to a post on this thread.
And I shop for all of my media at indie stores/chains because of personal ethics and principles. I will not give into huge corporations that go to any lengths to and have no shame in manufacturing consent, which is the propaganda used to brainwash the public into buying their stuff, ie giving them -- these huge corporations -- more and more money so fat executives can get even fatter, which is what it all really comes down to ... everything also goes in a cycle; it all goes back to the government. Take a political science class if you want to learn about a lot of this stuff.
I love supporting places that give a lot more character to a community and/or give back to communities; and if morals and ethics do not have anything to do with this, then I might as well stop fighting for what is right, glue rose-colored glasses to my head, and watch the world go down the tube. I am not totally depressed; I do see the positives in many things. But, I am also not blind, and will not stand by while immoral, un-ethical and just plain wrong practices are going on around me.
I am sorry if many of you disagree.

Posted: 4/15/07 at 7:45pmThat's fine if you support independents because of your morals and ethics, but please do not tell me what is moral and ethical. It comes off as very preachy, and you have no right to tell me what is moral and ethical. I will decide for myself.
