Truly Moving Performances

I just saw "Requiem for a Dream" for the very first time this evening.

I am now a total mess.

I know the movie is four years old, so I wont gush about it as I'm likely one of the last people on here to see it. While all of the actors do a superb job, Ellen Burstyn absolutely moved me to sob. My roommate came in and thought I had lost my mind or something. I will now go back and see everything she has ever done, ever. And I'm going to call my mama!!

What other truly moving performances have y'all seen lately?

I have actually never seen it. Gasp, I know. I think the last movie to actually make me cry was BIG FISH at the end. Lord, I was a mess.

This one, I know is a little suspect, but, I also cried about 10 times in "Mr. Holland's Opus". Saw it in the theater, and had to wait for everyone else to leave because I was such a mess.

The last movie I cried in was "Return of the King." The last hour or so is sad and beautiful, but the part that always devastates me is the very end, when (SPOILER!!) Frodo gets on the boat for the Grey Havens. Especially the part when he takes one last look back and his cheeks are rosy again...*sob*

Requiem for a Dream is my absolute FAVORITE movie. I couldn't sleep after I saw it, I was SO destroyed.

Other movies that REALLY moved me:

The Hours
Angels in America
The Color Purple
The Dreamers
Y Tu Mama Tambien
Cabaret

Yes, I cried during those moments too. The last third of Return of the King has such a sustained and delicate melancholy, it was so beautiful. Seeing Sam carry Frodo up the mountain was one of the most heartbreaking moments I've ever seen.

Requiem For A Dream devestated me; I was haunted for days. For me, that last sequence with the camera panning back as it sealed each character's fate was bone-chilling.

The saddest movie I've ever seen is Dancer in the Dark. It will truly stop and tear out your heart. Bjork was absolutely phenomenal; I don't think words can do justice to the sheer powerhouse performance she delivered, how fully she embodied the main character and captured pathos and the gritty realism of it all.

Truly Moving Performances

I saw Requiem for a Dream in the theatres and it really messed me and my friend up. We saw it in Union Square and we had to go to Toys'r Us to recoop.

I thought the acting was wonderful in the movie, but I highly doubt that I would ever watch the movie again. I have loved Jennifer Connoly since Labyrinth and Seven Minutes in Heaven (anyone?) but I thought she should have been nominated for this movie. I'm happy she won the year after for "A Perfect Mind", but I think she was better in Requiem.

Ellen Burstyn was amazing, the whole movie was quite painful to watch.

Anyone ever see "Grace of my Heart", that one really get to me as well.
It's worth a shot/ :) www.freephotoiPods.com/?r=15009978

I completely forgot to add Helen Hunt to my list.

As for Jennifer Connelly...

As much as I didn't like "A Beautiful Mind", I did love her in it. Either her or Marisa Tomei should have won the Oscar.

Pauly Shore in Bio-Dome.

..."Frodo gets on the boat for the Grey Havens. Especially the part when he takes one last look back and his cheeks are rosy again."

Not to be confused with when "Fredo get's on the boat at the Corleone lake and takes one last look back at Michael, before he says his good luck Hail Mary for fishin'"

Now that truly induced a movement,,,especially for Fredo!

....sorry they made me an offer I couldn't refuse if I posted this.

In response to the original post, I still don't understand how Julia Roberts won over Ellen Burstyn. Oh, well. The Academy Awards suck anyway. Just look at my list of performances. Most of them didn't win.

Truly Moving Performances

call me a sap, but Jeremy Sumpters performance as Peter Pan was THE best child acting I can ever remember seeing. He's really an amazing boy and is definetely going to be a big box-office draw when he grows up!

Another movie that leaves me a wreck is A Little Princess. I ADORE the book and the movie was just as good.

Oh, Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. By the time it got to the part with the circus elephants, I was breaking down. Whodathunkit?

Truly Moving Performances

Good Lord, I bawled at BIG FISH! For some stupid reason, ARMAGEDDON gets me everytime I get roped into watching it. And I will totally honest and admit to crying at THE RETURN OF THE KING. What can I say? Im a crier! The first time I saw RENT, I was a wreck during the reprise of 'I'll cover you.'
There's always room for pathos - and jazz hands.

Truly Moving Performances

I cried during, and ONLY, the following films:

The Hours - The cumulatiive power of this film was overwhelming.
Riding in Cars with Boys - I don't care what anyone else says, this was a good movie.
Far From Heaven - Best film of 2002. Beautiful.
Requiem for a Dream - Ellen Burstyn and that red dress... I still tear up when I think about it.
Big Fish - The ending had me.
A.I. - Such a powerful and disgustingly misunderstood movie.
The Return of the King - I cried for the final half hour of the film.
and
The Notebook - Never, in my life, have I cried so much. Ever.
