It depends what role they see you as. I'm a character actress and some of my dream roles are The Lady of the Lake in Spamalot and Ulla in The Producers.
In some instances, however I sometimes get cast as old women, which I hate. I'm playing Fruma-Sarah in my high school's production of Fiddler on the Roof. I hate every minute of it.

Posted: 1/29/06 at 10:26pmSince I'm nice and innocent(apparently) I always get the the romantic leads. I despise it! I never get to have any fun!! I would so much rather play the bad one or the comic relief. But, no.

I always end up playing someone pissed off, with an attitude or some comedic character [with an accent]

Posted: 1/29/06 at 10:54pmI have an ingenue voice and a character look. It sucks.

Posted: 1/31/06 at 12:48amI don't get it I've never been type casted, maybe I'm not a type. I've been everthing from Potiphar's Wife to Mrs. Potts, but I hate it when directors write a person off because of their looks. Oh, wait I was type casted as Athena in a one act called Medusa's tale (if you are looking for a good serious one act look this up, AWESOME nad so powerful if done right) it kinda pissed me off cause the girl who played Medusa was so-so, a little emotion less for someone is has been raped.

Posted: 1/31/06 at 3:06amI always get cast as the leading man or the innocent guys. It is cool because most of the time they are lead roles, but i really would enjoy playing someone wicked or cruel. I love supporting roles SO much more.

Posted: 2/1/06 at 9:41pmI either get old woman or ingenue. I never get the comedic roles though and I wish I would for once so I could try my hand at comedy.

Posted: 2/2/06 at 12:05amUgh I'm always the ingenue. Sometimes I wish that I could play the really evil part, but instead I get to be the sweet one. Although, what can I expect. I have blonde hair and blue green eyes, I'm only 5'2, and I am a soprano. I do have big boobs though, and a brassy belt that I never get to use. Pity.

Posted: 2/2/06 at 5:54pmI'm a soprano who look really young, so of course I'm always typecast as the ingenue. It would be nice, though, for some casting directors to notice my powerful belt and cast me as something OTHER than the romantic!

In alot of shows I get cast as the dumb girl, or someone who is overly perky, it gets a bit tiresome, but I've gotten used to it.
My dream role would be Tracy in Hairspray or Rizzo in Grease, so yeah...
"If we don't live happily ever after at least we survive until the end of the week!" -Kermit the frog "I need the money... it costs a lot to look this cheap!" -Dolly P. "Oh please, Over at 'Gypsy' Patti LuPone hasn't even alienated her first daughter yet!" Mary Testa in "Xanadu" "...Like a drunk Chita Rivera!" Robin de Jesus in "In the Heights"
"B*tch, I don't know your life." -Xanadu After that if he still doesn't understand why you were uncomfortable and are now infuriated, kick him again but this time with Jazz Hands!!! -KillerTofu

I don't get much typecasting, I've played the ingenues and some very strong female roles, but I've been told that if I was to have a 'type' , it would be a soubrette.
Heh, I'm hoping thats not a comment on my personality...

Millie from Thoroughly Modern Millie is a soubrette. Which is why i was cast as that role. I had never really heard the term before this show and when my theatre teacher told me that I thought he meant the hot dog company (Sobrette)...i was like....oh, thank you? ::weak smile::
Then he explained it...hahah

Posted: 2/6/06 at 9:26amType casting can be good or bad. In a lot of ways, it has worked for me. My ethnicity plays a big role...I'm Filipino with crazily curly, long hair. If make up correctly I can look Asian, Hispanic, or African-American, so I often get the "ethnic" roles (think Mary Magdalene in Superstar, Yonah in Children of Eden, or Chiffon in Little Shop of Horrors). It's something you can't avoid, so just play it up to your advantage :)

Posted: 2/8/06 at 11:39pmI took intesive dance training for eight years. So, when I've done a musical, I'm usually cast in a dancing role. I was one of the six poodle-skirt girls in Joseph..., and I was an Indian three times in Peter Pan. I really don't like being type cast as "the dancer", which is why I've been doing straight plays lately.
