U2 Tour Dates - Now Official!

I'm so far from overachieving it's not even funny. I've had all day Sunday, Monday, and today to write a 6 page paper, and I'm only seeing the light at the end of the tunnel now!! And it's most certainly not my best work. I've got many, many quotes and chunks that I've paraphrased (all diligently cited, of course)...there's just a lot more of that than of "me" in the paper. It's not like "QUUUOOOOOOOOOOOOOO...[a bunch more O's]...OOOOTE" me "QUOOOOOOOOOOTE." I've written better papers, but it's about working-class Victorian motherhood! How much could I realistically invest in it?!??! ZZZZZzzzzzzzz.

And it sounds like SeattleII was indeed a hell of a show. Gloria, Bad (w/ Ruby Tuesday, you biotch!) OotS, the first tour Vertigox2...and all from GA, a couple deep outside the elipse. Yeah.

I do think, if pressed to pick, I'd almost be tempted to say Brooklyn was my favorite show. I mean, it was my first, and for as few songs as it was, it was a great set (sad when they pulled out more surprises in an 11 songs set than they have for most of the tour...who would have expected IWF, OOC, and She's a Mystery to Me?!?! I'd never even heard SAMTM!!!) Plus, my fab location and the skyline, and the crazy energy from the crowd (we started the chorus of 40 on our own when they left before the encore!!! That was an AMAZING moment!)

I don't really know how I'd rank our 3 shows. They really did all have great moments. None of them were as jaw-droppingly dynamic as we'd hyped them up to be, but we got at least 3 songs at every single show that weren't played at any of the others we attended. Several of those weren't played at any of the others MSG shows at all. I think they were a smidge hard on them...and I think everyone knows by now that they don't shake things up a whole lot. I got something like a dozen new songs in those 3 shows, so I have no complaints there!

How's the l*w s****l business going, btw?!?!?

ETA: Whoa, bi-polar, much?!?!? Crazy just came in and was all like "Hey, how's it going? How are your midterms going? Gotta go crunch some numbers for my audit class, so I'll see ya later! Have a good one!"...*cricket*...*cricket* WTF?!?!? I wonder if she is bi-polar?!?!? Weird.

I would dare say that your Brooklyn experience was probably equally as good, if not better than my Seattle2. Both of them were our first times, but you got to see them free, AND up-close AND with the BBridge as a backdrop! How cool would that be? I would say if I ever flew across the continent to see them again (or if either of us ever travelled to another city to see a concert), it would be worthwhile to spring for one night on expensive GA tix (not ridiculous, of course, but someone said Detroit GAs are going for $125 a PAIR!) - I think the floor experience really makes or breaks the show's enjoyment!

Out of our three shows, I'd probably rank 10/8, 10/14, 10/10 from best to worst (funny how 10/10 was our best seats too!). Even though 10/10 mixed it up a bit (and wasn't that when I got my beloved Achtung encore?) the audience just wasn't into it, and I suppose Ostrich McRhythmless didn't help much! Ellie = FantabuASS

LMFAO at your ETA. I hope you gave her the cold shoulder! Doooo it Maaaabel. Doooo it!

BTW, WTF? CBGB is still open?? Ellie = FantabuASS I thought they had closed! And it's on the Bowery, which is really close to where we were "Coach bag?? Coach bag??"-ing it on Canal, right? Looks like I've got to plan another trip!

Hmmm...I've heard so many conflicting things about CBGB's that I kind of just stopped paying attention. I've only been once, during the...Whatchamacallit(??) Festival, my sopohmore year. And I've since learned that The Killers played that same damn fest (CMG, I want to say) THAT YEAR!!! We just picked a random date at CBGB's and went. Can you even IMAGINE if it had been The Killers, and I saw them before anyone knew who they were?!?! I was so depressed when I read that. *sigh*

Apparently a few GAs dropped for Boston in December on TM. I want MSG in November, and I want 'em BAD!

It's strange how 10/10 seems like it was the least impressive of the three shows, considering it had such a kick-ass encore (which I won't go into in detail for a certain someone on this thread). Ellie = FantabuASS And other than that last bit w/ the audience dropping the ball royally, the rest did seem pretty crazy energy-wise. I remember not even being able to take a picture during SBS because the floor was shaking so much (oh, and because of Ostrich Boy). And even though those were the closest seats, I kind of think they were the worst of the lot...though when we moved down for the last encore(s), that spot did kick some major ass!!!

And I didn't give her the cold shoulder. I chatted for a few, but as soon as she left (not slamming the door, mind you) I just kind of stared at the door from my desk in utter disbelief. I'm putting my money on bi-polar disorder.

I've asked you three or four times but I've got pre-mature Alzheimer's (did I ever tell you?) so I'll ask again - how much are you paying now and how much does a single cost? Hmm? Hmm? It's only one semester left!

That's right, I DO remember the floor shaking like CRAZY on Monday! Even during the lamer songs where I could actually focus on the photo-taking, everything was trembling! But my lasting memories were of the big black pole that obstructed our view of our lovah, Adam, and the collective audience response of, "How long to sing th--Larry's gone, let's go home!"

ETA: Is www.macphisto.net Axver's site? They've got crazy details on the number of times a song's been played and the first and last time it was performed, updated within the last day or two! Talk about a hobby!

I think a single in this building is about $2000 more than what I'm paying, and a single in Brooklyn at the good dorm is $12,000...$10,000 or so for the single in the crappy Brooklyn dorms. I don't remember all the specifics, because I couldn't afford the single here, and I didn't want to go to Brooklyn and live in a hotel w/o a kitchen...BUT, I do think if playing house was so important to Crazy and her hellish bf, they should have opted for the Brooklyn single route. Did they really expect to get a roommate that would be cool w/ him actually moving in?? Seriously, if he wasn't such a jerk, I'd almost consider it if he'd agree to cut me a check for $2000. Almost.

Yeah, the pole definitely sucked on Monday. What a pity. I actually liked the 409 seats w/ the gap in the curtains right in front of us. That worked out rather well! And you're 40 Chorus (hope that's not a spoiler Elphie...it's what they've been closing w/ since the 1st leg!) was pretty much spot on. Seriously, if it had been like Saturday, that show would have gotten the edge (no pun intended, har har!) but when you leave on that note...Can't help but be quasi-diminished.

Have you seen this streaming business on interference for tonight's show? I think it's already to capacity, and I couldn't figure it out, but it sounds pretty cool!

Durr, okay, since I can't will myself to part with $25 on a fake Rent shirt, but I want something Rent-ish to wear to the movie, I'm looking at possible CBGB tees. Any suggestions?

Jesus, $2000 more for a single? Screw that then, and if your future roomie becomes unbearable, splurge on yourself with the $2k you saved! (You know...$2k will MORE than buy your airfare to Vancouver, PLUS all the spending money you'll ever need!)

I would say our last seats (300-level directly behind) and 400-level seats were probably my favorite - even sitting directly behind gave us a better view than either of the side-views did!

I'm going to check out the streaming thing right now - have they started COBL yet? How is it being streamed?

Mmmm...I feel like I need a CBCB shirt too. Though, I guess they are kind of overdone in the city. One day.

Someone's at the concert, she's calling some guy and he somehow has it streaming on his computer and 60-something people can listen in. I have NO idea how it works, or how you get it to work if there are spaces left.

They're up to Miracle Drug...I just popped in, having finished all of my paper but the conclusion.

I'm a total computer retard. You said "streaming" and I'm all, "Wuh?" I just saw the thread title and my eyes glazed. (Which is partially the reason why I have no MSG boots yet - they're all 'torrent this' and 'torrent that', and I don't have a clue what a torrent is!!!!)

Yeah, I don't know what the deal w/ torrents is. I know it involved downloading some sort of (free?) software, and that's enough to make me want to just wait for someone else to do the dirty work, and do a snail-mail trade.

I've done stuff w/ streaming audio before (Tony nominations, there was another site that had older, non-live, streaming audio) and I just had to go to the site and click Play. The link for this brought me to some blog site or something, and I didn't see anything to just play the concert/stream???

ETA: ELPHIE!!! SKIP THE NEXT POST!!! Tiff posted a mock-setlist for that streaming thing we've been talking about, but there are spoilers in there at the end of it!!!

F*CKers - of course NOW no one decides to answer my question and that thread dies.

From what I gather, you can open WMP, go to File-->Open URL--> C&P https://live.g0rman.com:8000 into it, and it should work. I don't know if it's "g0rman" or "gorman" that should really be in there, but neither is working for me. Et tu?

ETA: On the bright side, the setlist isn't looking too exciting today:

*SPOILERS, #1ELPHIE!!!!!!!! [Some of them are made up though so if you catch a glimpse, it really doesn't mean anything! Just an inside joke between me and my best pal, Mabel. You know, the one you met first and thought, oh, sure, we'll be BFF forever. But then I showed up on the scene and she's totally forgotten about you! She didn't tell me so herself, but that's because, she, you know, forgot.]

SETLIST:

1. City Of Blinding Lights
2. Vertigo
3. Elevation
4. I Will Follow
5. Electric Co. / Send In The Clowns Snippet / See Me Feel Me...Snippet
6. I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For / In A Little While Snippet
7. Beautiful Day / Many Rivers To Cross
8. Miracle Drug
9. Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own / Torna A Surriento (snippet)
10. Love & Peace Or Else

Nope. I think it's supposed to be "gorman" and not "g0rman" (at least, wmp is humoring me for a few more seconds when I enter that in) - I think only 64 ppl can listen at one time, and that may be why we can't sign on. I suppose I'll have to satisfy myself with any one of the many boots you've supplied me. Perhaps I'll pop in a DVD tonight? (Oh, forgot to tell you I did have that entire stash in my suitcase, so I got the Boy DVD and all the others!)

Sometimes you gotta give props to the scary PLEBA girls.

You know, where's Grownupgroupie been lately??? Didn't she say she was hitting the 11/5 show?

And has Namo been keeping up to date on the setlists and going-ons? (Probably not - I think he said he didn't follow the setlists leading up to his crazy Boston concert either.)

So final setlist for tonight was:

*spoilers*

1. City Of Blinding Lights
2. Vertigo
3. Elevation
4. I Will Follow
5. Electric Co. / Send In The Clowns Snippet / See Me Feel Me...(Snippet)
6. I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For / In A Little While (Snippet)

8. Miracle Drug
9. Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own / Torna A Surriento (Snippet)
10. Love & Peace Or Else
11. Sunday Bloody Sunday / Father Abraham (Snippet)
12. Bullet The Blue Sky / Hands That Built America (Snippet) / When Johnny Comes Marching Home (Snippet)
13. Miss Sarajevo

HUMAN RIGHTS VIDEO

14. Pride (In The Name Of )
15. Where The Streets Have No Name
16. One / Old Man River (Snippet)
ENCORE
17. First Time
18. Stuck In A Moment You Can't Get Out Of
19. With Or Without You

20. All Because Of You
21. Yahweh
22. 40

Yawn. Not lighting my hair on fire over missing the streaming audio, although hearing "First Time" would've been nice. Is Miss Sarajevo a permanent fixture now? Oh, and can I add ABOY onto the list of HTDAAB songs that I can live without hearing again? I think that list is growing longer than the list of songs I WANT to hear from HTDAAB! (Miracle Drug, STYCMIOYO, Yahweh, ABOY, M&aW, Crumbs - well, maybe those two just once, so I can say I heard the whole CD - vs. Vertigo, LAPOE, COBL, Fast Cars, OotS, One Step Closer - ooh, a tie!)

You know I've become a jaded U2 concert-goer/setlist follower when I actually kind of wish we'd heard Discotheque and...hell...really, any Pop stuff just to mix things up. Who'dathunk the day would come when I'd say that??

Yeah, that was kind of an eh show...especially the 2nd encore. I actually don't mind ABOY, though if I had the option of tossing it for another high-energy song, I would. I'd just dump MD for ANYTHING! I know it's the Vertigo tour in support of this album, but I think playing 8 or so from the album on any given night is...I don't know. I'm sure they could rotate MD w/ something else...I am kind of glad that was pretty uneventful though. Could you imagine if it had been the show he brought Bruce up?!?! Or if he'd gone on some political rant (being in DC and all) about Dubya not holding up his end of the bargain and being pissed about politicians usuing their concerts as fund-raisers, etc.

ETA: Bono is indeed on the cover of Rolling Stone, and apparently it is the issue that comes out tomorrow! Keep your eyes peeled.

I like the cover - he looks as if he's just woken up.

Glad to hear the concerts were kinda mediocre. They sucked, right? I missed absolutely nothing, right?

How did these MSG shows compare to the rest of the tour, do ya
think? Was Tiff's Seattle one the best? Are we only counting North American dates? If you could've picked just one show to be at, from the whole tour so far, what would it be?

Does Seattle beat their home shows in Dublin, or any of the other European concerts? When you look at the whole picture, 10/08 kinda sucked, right?

I'm still semi-kicking myself - I bet you two would have let nothing stand in your path! I'm a bad U2 fan. Ellie = FantabuASS

You guys would not believe the insane response I've just received for some stupid Canucks tickets. I was supposed to see the game tonight and had some fairly good tickets ($39 per ticket and I had a pair) - Canucks vs. Coyotes (GRETSKY COACHING! GRETSKY!!!!!!) but my dad decided that he would rather forsake his end of his anniversary present (my Mom's Mamma Mia! tickets being the other) and stay home to watch CSI/Without A Trace instead. Incensed, I put the tickets up for sale at under face value ($30/ticket) on Craigslist, thinking, it's 2am, the game's tonight, and really, Vancouverites don't use Craigslist like New Yorkers do. I won't get a response, right??

This morning I wake up - 9 hours after putting up the ad. 29 new messages in my Inbox. What. The. F*CK. Including one guy who said he wasn't interested, but for me to sell the tickets at face value and not take a loss. Really, I shouldn't have put them up for less than face in the first place - this game has been sold out since tickets went on sale. But I'm stupid and, occasionally, conscientious.

Long story short, I sold my tickets for $40/ticket to a guy who's taking his little 4-year-old son to his first hockey game. I should feel warm and fuzzy. But I don't. I was offered $100 from some people, and I'm STILL getting offers sent to my Inbox every 3 minutes (no exaggeration).

AND...AND...in the mean time, only one person has offered to buy my section L219 Vegas ticket, and now I've got only the U219 left. AND! AND...now I get two offers from other people saying they'd like to buy the pair, and I think it's too late because I've agreed to this guy already, who STILL hasn't paid me yet. AND...AND...right when I got those two offers for the pair, I put up the single U219 on eBay at face value.

I've got a headache. Why do I buy these tickets? Why? And I can't believe I'm missing F*CKING GRETSKY!!! GRETSKY!!!!!!!!

(For those of you following at home, like Ellie, who know nothing about hockey, watching Wayne Gretsky coach a hockey team is like watching Michelangelo do a workshop on sculpting.)

F*CK!!!

Yeah, I really would've rather even Discotheque than MD. I like MD on the CD, but live, it's just SUCH a momentum-killer. (And not just because it's a ballad - U2 has many slow songs that are rather anthemic and keep the energy up - a la With Or Without You or Stuck.) When I read the lyrics, I'm reminded of what a potent song it is, but live, it's just so booooring.

I think my Seattle one was more of less voted the best show of the first leg until Chicago IV (or was it Boston?) came along a few weeks later - but Seattle was known for having crazy energy, the kickass Achtung encore and the first Vertigo2.

If I could've picked one show to be at, it would still be Seattle2, or that Chicago/Boston one I was referring to. Or the Dublin2 concert that Jez went to. Or Brooklyn Bridge (if that counts).

But I'm just so darn happy at seeing a U2 concert at Madison Square Garden...10/8 and 10/14 were quite terrif. (And you missed K***e, you lucky dog. I think I started cracking up once his stupid face appeared on the mondo monitors overhead, didn't I?)

"It's not always about you!!!" (But if you think I'm referring to you anyway, then I probably am.)
