If In My Life is still open at the end of November, I'll...I'll do something crazy. I know if I say something nutty, they'll become this crazy cult hit and it'll run for years! I can't believe you'd drop Spelling Bee for it though, Pat! Madness.
I'm going to let my bank account balance back out (I don't have any income at the moment, so I can't say replenish) though, a few weeks of living more sparsely (I swear I spent as much on food in the last week as I did in any given month!) I'll have evened back out and I can swing something for MSG in November. You simply must work something out, Ellie, even if it's not really the same fab plan we'd been scheming all this time. Really, when it all came down to it, I think your greatest loss was missing me try to eat eggplant at Nobu w/ chopsticks. Who needs Bono when you can get a good laugh at my expense?!?! Though, Tiff and I did grab lunch in Chinatown yesterday, and I was significantly more adept with solid, graspable food, so all hope is not lost!
Here's some of the non-spoilered highlights from Tiff's review for Elphie:
Crowd was pretty good today. Bono was seriously high - I'm sure of it. For his pre-Miracle Drug spiel, he went on a rambly tangent that had something vaguely to do with Edge being a space man and Larry meeting him and being all, "Where are you from?" "The future." "What's the future like, Edge?" "It's better." More of the same for 10 minutes. Nic and I looked multiple times seriously wondering wtf was going on and questioning whether we were watching the beginning of the end for Bono's credibility.
This was seriously bizarre! I can't wait for a boot to surface so I can hear WTF he said again! I think Bono had a "miracle drug" of his own before the show, because he was seriously rambling SH*T off like he was stoned out of his mind! I don't know how long it was, but I wish I'd peeked at my watch when he started, because it felt like a good 5 minutes. I'm sure it wasn't that long, but Tiff and I glanced over at each other a couple times to looks of extreme bewilderment. I thought he was done w/ the story at least twice and yet he kept on rambling.
Nic and I cracked and bought the size 12 youth tees - the front is sort of ugly but the back has the NY skyline and is specially for the MSG shows, so we decided to spend the $20 (vs. $35 for the adult size of the same design) and squeeze into them for the concert. Naturally, Nic's is looser around the waist than mine. (Bitch.)
Elphie, you'll have to look for this shirt when you go. It's got all 8 NYC dates. When I first saw it on Saturday, I thought it was just the October shows, but they've got 5/21 and the November dates on there too. It's certainly not the cutest shirt in the world, but it's still a cool memento to have!
We also checked out the Anton exhibit at the gallery today - too bad we went so out of our way for it - it was literally twelve photos, and most of them have been published before. (Don't let that stop you from buying them at the gallery for the low price of $5500-$22k!) They had the shot of Elevation, Joshua Tree cover, naked Adam on Actung Baby...
...speaking of naked Achtung Adam, some woman in the front row of GA had it blown up and pasted on a poster next to some handwriting we couldn't make out, and she was standing right in front of Adam, who then turned more towards the right so the photo was out of eye-view. Heh.
Felt kind of bad for Adam w/ that poster. He really did seem to avoid his little area of the stage after seeing it. I'm very curious about what the sign said. It had quite a bit of writing on it though. How distracting?!?!?
Tiff and I had a bond over our appreciation for Adam this week, and I'm now totally sticking by my decision to give Larry the boot. He seemed to be the only one who was less than thrilled about Friday's show. I caught genuine smiles on the other 3, but he just sat there...business as usual.
Also, Tiff and I have decided that Adam definitely bats for the other team...or at the very least is a switch hitter. And he's totally in love with Bono. I think we all know how I am w/ computers, so I can't figure out how to post non-google images, but we found the most tragic picture of Adam and Bono. Bono's kind of nuzzling up to Adam, and Adam has the pitiful smile on his face, like he's loving the love from Bono and yet is crying on the inside, because he's not going to be getting any! Very sad.
Guess that's about it. Pat, I wouldn't bother w/ IML. There were some inadvertant laugh out loud moments, but it was pretty much just a bad show. Though, in the apartment scenes, if there was a truly lengthy, boring bit, I amused myself by staring at Adam's fro on the October LP that was sitting under an end table on the set. How sad is that?!?
Giant lemons, dancing skeletons, random pirates, and more takiness do not a campy musical make, unfortunately. It was just bad. Stick w/ Spelling Bee. Though I doubt this'll still be open, so I doubt you'll even have to make that decision.
ETA: Link to thread on interference w/ pic. It's on page 15, just in case, not too far down.
Bono/Adam picture...:-(

I need to decompress for a few minutes, and then we can go over our whole week together!
I'll respond to your PM/email in a mo', Ellie. Things were totally insane this past week!
Oooh, thanks, m'dear!!!
ETA: I'm off to read for a bit, but I'll pop back on in a little while to chat for a bit about the week!
Avatar has been changed accordingly. It makes me a bit happy but very, very sad. Ditch Ali and embrace Adam like a lovah, Bono!!
(Are we starting to sound like PLEBA fangirls?)
What else was notable this week...
well, Nic and I had a ker-azy adventure on Thursday night and Friday morning, wandering around in the rain. Thursday night we wound up sans show (and really, who wanted to see Avenue Q or DRS anyway...right? Right??) and decided the best way to kill time was to lay on the couches in the Marriott Marquis for an hour or two (and become emotionally involved with the well-being of the elevators, which we watched in a daze). Then after dinner Nicole had this BRILLIANT idea that while the rain is intensifying, why don't we walk up to Columbus Circle? (Okay, it was my idea, because it's where Aidan and Carrie broke up!) So we're walking past the Ed Sullivan Theatre and some limo driver (we'll choose to say it was David's driver, but realistically, I don't know what D-Man would be doing there at 9 o'clock at night) offers to upgrade our dinky Chinatown umbrella for this enormous 4'-wide one, and we're much appreciative. Until Hunter (*shudder*) then starts hitting on us and offering us a "free ride" in his limo to Columbus Circle. I politely told him I needed to walk off dinner and get some exercise and he made some other squicky remark I don't remember. Then we speed-walked to Columbus Circle, expecting a silver limo to pull up and kidnap us at any minute. Good pic of the massive umbrella flipping inside out while I'm trying to smile into the camera though! Then Nicole -- okay, I -- thought it would be a genuine idea to trudge from 59 & Broadway to 60 & 2nd to Serendipity 3 (seriously, on paper, it doesn't SEEM that far!!) and it took what felt like HOURS but it was a surprisingly fun time. (Serendipity was good, albeit expensive, and I SWEAR TO GOD a contestant on America's Next Top Model was at the table behind oursbut I can't pinpoint it.)
Then on Friday, Nic and I did Canal Street (her chopstick skills were greatly improved from the mess that was Nobu - seriously, and I've got the photos to prove it!) and nearly got kidnapped while we followed the scary vendors to secret warehouses in surprising locations to buy knock-off bags (okay, not kidnapped, but it was a bit disconcerting at first) - good fun, although my freakin' Coach bag is already falling apart!
Oh New York, how I loathe and love you.
(I seriously can't believe it freakin' poured EVERY SINGLE DAY I WAS THERE except for yesterday - EVERY SINGLE DAY.)
Yeah, I totally gave up on Ulysses and have been picking away at the books for my research project today. I actually don't think it'll be that bad. I'll finish up most of the reading tonight, and I'll have most of tomorrow and Wednesday and some of Tuesday to write the paper. It's only 5-7 pages, so it shouldn't be so bad...I hope.
I literally laughed out loud reading your last post, Tiff. We did have good times! And WFT?!?! "Coach bag? Coach bag?" Already falling apart?!?! At least you had your day in the sun yesterday looking cute in pink w/ it, right?
Thursday night/Friday early am was indeed good times in the rain...what felt like HOURS Ummm...that's probably because it wasHOURS!!! Didn't we head out at like 9, and we didn't get there until after 11?? And yeah, I'm still on the lookout for crazy Hunter. Ever since we made that off-hand comment about him having some tracking device in the mondo-umbrella, I've been a bit paranoid!
And watching the elevators at the Marquis was surprsingly fun. I can't believe we spent so much time there. Whatever. It was comfy, and we were mesmerized by the glowy elevators.
P.S. Love the new av...how endearing, and yet still very sad. Poor Adam.

Whee, did you actually go on the elevators yourself? They're glass, right?
Adam, a closeted homosexual? I'll go along with that.
Now that I'm back, I finally have time to go all over Interference and see what's shakin'. Lo and behold, once I click onto Fan Encounters (and I'm praying there is NOTHING regarding them coming out to sign before/after the 10/8, 10/10 and 10/14 shows), The Cell Phone Guy from 10/8 started a thread to set the record straight! To be fair, I totally felt sorry for that guy the entire time - I think if Bono yelled at me in front of 20k people, I really would have cried and left and had thousands of dollars worth of therapy sessions. I just thought the thread was sort of amusing. Especially the people who were all, "I think it would be awesome if Bono yelled at me!" Really?
https://forum.interference.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=142571&perpage=15&pagenumber=2
It's sort of nice that most people on the thread are siding with this guy though - I was surprised, I totally thought they'd jump to defend Bono and tell the guy he was a wad for having his cell out in the first place, even if it was only to take pictures. (God know if I was as close as he was, my camera phone would've been working in over time, and I would NOT have dealt as well to being yelled at by Bono!)
Also Nic, you were right - he does live at the Sam Remo Apts. https://www.thecityreview.com/uws/cpw/cpw145.html It's on 74/75 St and CPW - meaning I was sleeping mere blocks from him. Mere. Blocks. It was almost like we were lying in coitus. Soclose.
ETA: Now that I'm reading the rest of the Cell Phone Guy's thread, there seems to be more people using the whole "Bono's human too, and he apologized!" argument. Have they forgotten that he only apologized immediately before going into his One/Take Out Those Evil Technological Devices And Save Africa spiel???? Seriously. I'm totally LOLing at the post near the end who said Bono got his karmic retribution by walking right by the mic when he was blind-folded and having the security guy jump on stage to save his ass though.
(Oh Ellie, you did miss a good show. )
Friggin' Crazy is at it again w/ the windows!!! Elphie, Ellie, Pat...what do you think is a reasonable temperature outside to stop opening the windows/putting on the AC?? Friday afternoon, after our day of running around Chinatown in search of a deal on "Coach bag? Coach bag!?" Tiff and I returned cold and soaked, only to find that my looney roommie had turned on the AC in the bedroom!!! It totally makes no sense (other than Tiff's assertation that I'm living with "the most passive aggressive person ever") since she was leaving for the entire weekend, and there was really no need for her to put the AC on (ignoring the fact that it was 50 degrees out and pouring rain!)
So, she comes back last night at midnight, and left (after dicking around the apt for an hour)...I get up this morning to find the window in the living room open! WTF?!? I immediately went to weather.com and they said it was "53 degrees, feels like 49." I'm sorry, but don't you think under 50 degrees makes no windows open/no AC pretty much a given for any normal person?!?!? (Tiff, do I need to tell them that she removed all of the toilet paper from the room and hid the dish soap before she left for the weekend...oh, and she won't use my trashcan, she shoves her crap under the sink for god knows how long!). Tiff, Elphie, am I that much of a raging bitch that one would think that they are not allowed to use "my" trash can?? Doesn't seem to bother her that it's "my" TV (since she had no qualms about hooking up her PS2 w/o even asking me).
I just want a normal roommate!!! One who doesn't have a patronizing boyfriend to spoon w/ on the bottom bunk. One who doesn't walk around in shorts when the room is 55 degrees. One who doesn't strip to pay the bills. One who doesn't put the feelings and needs of carrots above children in sweatshops, etc, etc, etc. These people are MENTAL!!!
Affectionately signed,
mabel
(who is wearing pajamas w/ socks, a long sleeve shirt, a hooded sweatshirt, w/ the hood up, and is about to crawl onto the couch w/ a fleech blanket...and I'll probably still be cold! I can't wait until the floor meeting tomorrow so I can ask wtf is up w/ the heat (not that it'll matter w/ Crazy!) The AC is supposed to have heat too, but I can't figure either the one in the living room or the bedroom out. Maybe the extreme cold is affecting me!)
WOW.
I LOVE the cold and typically have a fan or sleep on top of the covers to stay chilly - but that sounds INSANE!
Passive aggressive for sure.
I am so glad that someone outbid me at the last minute. So. Freakin'. Glad.
And seriously, Mabel's roommate is a sociopath. A passive-aggressive sociopath. From Texas. (Sound familiar? Except GW Bush probably likes temperatures greater than 50F - which is why he doesn't come to Canada. )
I can't believe that DRS went for more than Wicked.
Although, I made my money back over all and that's all I can really ask for.
Now to find people to buy my U2 LV tickets!
Indeed. I've got 2 singles and I just want to sell for face value but no one on Interference or Craigslist are buying!
11/4 and $63 each.
I've hashed it out to Ellie, Nic. We're wondering why the heck she's so darn elusive and impossible to track! No secrets here, it's the only gripe we had with her last weekend, riiiiight? The fact that she has ALL of our contact info and didn't get in touch with ANY OF US?
Just a quick note...Apparently Bruce Springsteen joined U2 on stage in the encore last night (in Philly) for an extended version of People Get Ready. Very cool!...Thought that knocked out 2 songs from the encore...not so cool.
If there were anyway I could make it to Vegas on a Friday night, I'd totally buy them.
Alas, I wouldn't be able to make it in time and I have Chita Rivera the next afternoon in San Diego.
Geez, Pat! Chita or the Boys?!?!? Though, I'm sure the fact that Tiff's got 2 singles, isn't a huge selling point either.
Oh, and apparently they only dropped OOTS for the Springsteen PGR, so I guess it wasn't 2 songs. How crazy would that have been though?!?! And we got MJB and Bono sounding horrific together on One?? Doesn't sound like a fair trade off. The Boss-MJB? The Boss-MJB?...Mmmmm...THE BOSS!!!
No, that didn't help either.
Plus, I already have the Chita tickets. I couldn't take Friday off to drive to Vegas, but I can get up Saturday morning and drive to Vegas.
I love my U2, but as a theatre guy I'd be kicking myself if I had a chance to see (and meet) Chita Rivera and didn't take advantage of it.
BTW, I forgot to mention to you guys that I broke down and get Fiona Apple tickets for her in LA. I still may turn around and sell them on eBay if I can make a small profit, but I figured just having the option open was worth it.
I read about friggin' Boss on Interference last night! WTF?? AWESOME!! I'm not a huge Bruce fan but the energy must have been freakin' INSANE!!! (We'll just forget about MJB for a moment - she was good by herself and all, but THE BOSS? IN PHILLY? WITH U2?? Seriously.)
Ooh, Fiona in LA would be a good show. I'm still batting around Gwen Stefani now - I'd see her in a heartbeat but alas none of my friends have the same desire! I've already missed The Killers, White Stripes, Franz and Scissor Sisters this year - I can't miss Gwen too!
Seriously?!?! Why Philly, Bruce? BBRRRRUUUUUUUUCCCCCEEE!!!! *sigh* MJB was fine on her own, but every time the chorus came around and they sang together it was cringeworthy.
On a sidenote...there seems to be next to nill for footwear for this leg. I think there are only 3 or so for all the dates that have been played thus far. I guess 10/10 and 10/14 were up on eBay, but the guy selling them has been caught splicing together tracks from previous shows and selling them in the past, so I don't know if they're legit or not. He had a clip of Party Girl from 10/14 up, and it was definitely from our show though (complete w/ a big ol' silence after the first verse and "Where are we Larry??"). I'm sure as hell not paying $20 for it though. Hopefully more shows will surface in the coming weeks. I want all of our shows, dammit! Actually, I'd like all of the MSGs, not just ours. Apparently there's a DVD of 10/7 that'll surface in a bit. Hmmm...
Yeah, I saw that the 10/10 sale (I think?) was taken down on eBay by yesterday afternoon. Does this guy have 100% feedback? I didn't follow any of those YSI links for clips from any of the MSG shows because I figured they'd already expired by then - is there really a video clip of Bono yelling at poor Cell Phone Guy?
