US Open 2024

Looking forward to this year’s Open, which starts up Monday in Flushing, Queens, as Novak Djokovic and Coco Gauff look to defend their singles titles. 

Who else will be watching — or better yet, who’ll be there in person?

Sabalenka comes into this tournament with some momentum, having steamrolled her way through Cincy without dropping a set. Maybe she can finally make it over the hump this time and win her first US Open. 

I’ve got her and Alcaraz for this year’s singles champs.

Resale prices are absurd. Fritz looked very good against Berrettini last night which was a pretty tough 2nd round opponent. It is a shame Tiafoe and Shelton play each other in 3rd round, I think Shelton has the more powerful game and could go deeper in the tournament. Coco breezed in the 2nd set last night but the high amount of double faults will kill her later on when she plays tougher opponents.

Joker is all but toast and is not moving well. The quick turnaround from the Olympics is killing some of the favorites in this tournament so far. 

We’ve still yet to see a repeat men’s singles champion at the Open since Federer five-peated from ‘04-‘08.

Three-setter between Gauff and Navarro. Exciting stuff and Coco has the momentum right now.

Hoping Navarro rises to the occasion in QF match. She was awful the match after she made Wimbledon QF. Fritz needs to finally step up and win QF match, been in same position a few times. I think he actually leads in the head to head matchup against Zverev. Hope Tommy Paul can make it a decent match against Sinner who is looking better each round.

Navarro advances to the semis, but she faced a weaker opponent this afternoon. Have to think this is where the road stops for her at this tournament. 

"Good for Fritz and Navarro for winning today! Let’s hope Tiafoe can pull out a W too"

If Tiafoe wins, it is guarantees a American player in the finals for the first time in close to two decades.

You never know, that is why they play the matches - ha ha.

I was hoping Medvedev would win.  I don’t want Sinner to win, he’s doing illegal drugs apparently.  Rooting for the two American women playing today!! 

Sabalenka was long, long overdue for a US Open singles championship.

She was and I was pulling for her to win. Congrats to her.

Congrats Jannik Sinner on your first US Open championship! 

I know he really did.  I didn’t think he had any chance against Sinner, but hey, he’s the first American man to get to a grand slam final in 15 years
