"Yes, let's hope the PO will be sensible about a Monday thru Friday delivery schedule."
As long as they have at least one night a week with extended hours for those of us who can't get there between 9 and 5.
About a year or so ago, the Post Offices in my area changed their hours from 8:30 to 5 to 9:30 to 7 during the week and from 8:30 to 12 to 9:30 to 4 on Saturday.

"I can understand all their cuts. Hardly anyone uses snail mail anymore."
The never ending lines at both of the post offices near me would indicate otherwise.

^ Same here.
Personally, I like the mail. I eagerly await it, because I never know what's coming. A catalog? A bill? Money? Netflix? Something purchased on eBay or Amazon?
One less day means that I may have a day without that little bright spot.

I used to love the mail, but once you grow up and it becomes mostly bills, it is not as much fun.
I like paying everything on line, never seeing the bills or the money coming out of my account. I t seems less painful that way.

"The way I look at it, delivering mail only 5 times a week gives them one less opportunity to be inefficient. My mail carrier is AWFUL."
In 100% agreement miss pennywise! Lately going to the post office is like going to the DMV...so enfuriating!

I was actually home the other day when the mail carrier delivered the mail. I watched the whole thing from my upstairs window.
She stuffed a bunch of mail into the box by the sidewalk, then crawled out of the truck with a package that she literally chucked up my front stairs instead of walking up and placing it on the landing. The next day, she didn't even go that far. She hung a package on the side of the mailbox where it got snowed on.
I guess her laziness and carelessness wouldn't bother me so much if I weren't comparing her to our old carrier. Not only did he bring packages up the stairs, he also brought the mail for that day to the door, rang the doorbell and handed it to us. I guess he figured "I'm going up to the front door to deliver the package; I may as well bring today's mail, too, and save them the trouble." I just think that's very professional, efficient and kind.

6 day a week mail delivery - how unusual. Then again municipally my garbage is picked up on an 8 day schedule.
week 1 Monday
week 2 Tuesday
week 3 Wednesday
through in a holiday
week 4 Friday
week 5 miss a week
week 6 Monday
They have to print a calendar and distribute it to everyone. But you still see this
week 1 10% people will put garbage out on the Friday before
week 2 the same people will put in out on Monday
week 3 the same people will put it out on Tuesday
you think they would catch on but they don't
and so on and so on.

Posted: 1/29/09 at 5:40pmI order from Amazaon and Ebay quite a bit so I'm always getting rather small packages. Well, one of our carriers was to lazy to leave my small packages at the door so he stuffed everything into our mail box. He stuffed it in so hard that he knocked our mail box down and then left a nasty note saying that if we didn't get an "appropriate" mail box our postal service would "cease"! I was livid!

Kansas, you are SO right! I was pumping gas once and the pump kept spurting out fuel even though the tank was full. (Something was wrong with the lever you hold to fill your tank.) There was gas all over the place...the car, the ground, me! When I complained to the owner he said it was MY fault for not watching it more closely. And he screamed at me for it...even though I had to pay whatever amount came up on the stupid gas pump!
That was during the Bush Administration though. I'm sure he's a much nicer man now.

Posted: 1/29/09 at 6:39pmOur post person never even attempts to deliver packages and we often get a "final notice" for packages for which we never got a first notice. Last month it took two trips and a lot of arguing with the people at the window to get a package because we never got a notice. Thank God for tracking numbers!

Posted: 1/29/09 at 7:02pmI could see no delivery on Saturday but that would mean I would have to make sure to send my Netflix movies in on Tuesday or Wednesday to get one on Friday.
