Hey guys =)
wanted to post on here in case anyone had some spare time before their evening show in the city or after their matinee.
I'm a Pace University student and love finding off beat adventures in the city. I decided to write a blog with my suggestions for great day trips that aren't typical tourist sites.
PLEASE check it out, and subscribe if you want to know more =)

You recommended FAST FOOD? Really?
Sorry kiddo, I strolled through your blog...not a single thing was anything I didn't know.
(Your photos are beautiful, though.)
There were several things I was unfamiliar with.
Also, if you're trying to eat for under $5, fast food can be the way to go. I don't think she was recommending it as a way of life.
I suppose my point was that what AMERICAN doesn't know about the existence of ff?
What is "offbeat", "adventurous" or "great" about that info?

I did not know about the Irish Famine memorial and now I want to go.
But for meals under $5, I would recommend street vendors over FF.
I imagine fast food fell under the "economy" rubric.
All I know is that I am going to do some damage at that candy shop the next time I am in town. And it appears that where I stay is within walking distance.
I would also suggest you open the blog up to tourists. There are a lot of people that visit the city looking for off-beat things to do. My concierge friend is always looking for things for his guests who request something out of the ordinary. JMO
GREAT idea for a blog! Useful, marketable, and fun!
Never knew about the first 3 places. Wonderful, I'll check it out the next time I visit!

I like that Reg introduced the word "rubric" into the discussion.

"Rubric" is a great word and fun to say, too. It doesn't get used nearly often enough.
The title of this thread reminds me o the spectacularly unstab;e nyunique. I don't remember the last time we had so much porn posted on BWW. *sigh* Good times...
So, if I created a Rubric's Cube, would it be a "toy" or a "puzzle"?

Thanks for the feedback.
By the way, I certainly wasn't promoting fast food eating as primary food in the city. I wanted to write to defy the notion that NYC is an expensive place to eat in, and especially to encourage shying away from tourist expensive chains like applebees, fridays, planet hollywood, etc.
The fast food I mentioned was unique because i find coupons for them as I walk down the street - the competition for customers generates new deals.
My main food tips were the fine quality grocery stores and the ethnic finds.
As far as the locations, please check them out! I have a few more adventures planned. I'm also very open to suggestions!
Fast food is a cheap, quick option and there are healthy choices as many visitors hate the idea of siting down to eat a meal when their time is limited in the city. Many people prefer to grab and go and sometimes fast food chains are significantly cleaner and more hygienic than most of the food carts I see.
Keep up the good work on your blog. I will keep an eye on it. I loved some of your suggestions. That candy store looks like fun!

thank you! My next two sites I just checked out will be up soon.
Why do I suddenly have the urge to listen to "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels"?!
I'm a little surprised Pop Tarts World didn't get a mention.
I'm still amazed at how many people who visit here skip out on the Cloisters. Yeah, its a slog uptown but its so worth it.
As you include fast food you might want to put in Better Burger as I don't think they are outside of NYC...although I could be wrong.
