Well, too bad. Artists shouldn't have to censor themselves because of some people's opinions.

I think a lot of people tend to contradict the standards they would normally hold when the subject is too sensitive or personal for them.

Edit: Your personal opinion? So, it ok to make up what happened out of your random theoried imagination?

My opinion is based on more than my random theoried imagination. And again, I'm not making a movie about it. How about this? You believe whatever makes sense and feels right to you, and I'll do the same. And enjoy the flick!

I love this film.

A few comments other than what everyone else has already written:

- So there isn't much incidental music in this film? Okay, that... is a lie. I swear I heard Enya in there somewhere and a few James Horner-like tunes. Honestly, the movie wouldn't have been as good without it.
- More people should just accept that 9/11 was a very theatrical event, just like Columbine, Titanic and TWA Flight 800 (which was the shameless inspiration for the opening scene in Final Destination). People won awards for 9/11 photography, and certain footage was so cinematic that directors (i.e. Paul Greengrass) don't even need to restage the same moments for their films. That said, I was not surprised at all to see so many people here in Chicago eating popcorn and nachos and drinking slushies while they watched the film. I'm sure they thought they were watching a good, juicy movie - and Greengrass's intentions aside, they were...
- I expect that the film will do very well at the box office. My theater was SPECTACULARLY crowded for an early afternoon show. I think a few people didn't find seats.
- Was the Sears Tower ever confirmed to be at risk at 9/11? In the film, control room operators repeatedly identify it as a target for some mysterious fifth flight.

Wait. I'm really confused. First your military theory was your own personal opinion---free of propaganda, which you have essentially defined as creating theories of a situation with no exact knowledge. Then, it wasn't just your imagination, thus something (propaganda?) DID influence your opinion.

I'm sorry that I can't follow.

My beef with you (and others), ultimately, isn't your opinion of what happened or your not wanting to see the film. It's that Tipper Gore/conservative notion that artists shouldn't make controversial works that you threw around with your "I would have been happier if it hadn't been made at all" and your propagandaesque (re your definition based on its use in this thread) knowledge of the filmmakers' motivations that irks me.

Jerby... you're just being argumentative. My own personal opinion... yes. Not my own personal theory. Opinions formed are usually based on something more than one's own imagined thoughts. At least mine are. And don't you have a movie to catch?

If anything, United 93 intrigues me the most because it is, as far as I can tell, the first film to deal with 9/11 directly and not try to push any sort of view or agenda. Although, I suppose you could count The 25th Hour but ya know...

But, L, your whole argument was an attack on the filmmaker's opinions that were created from as many facts as possible.

But really, whatever.

And my film is at 11:30pm thank you VERY much.

"But, L, your whole argument was an attack on the filmmaker's opinions that were created from as many facts as possible."

Books, as well as newspaper and magazine articles, can present information and pose questions while not claiming to be the one true, be all and end all, absolute version of events, thereby allowing the reader to form their own opinion(s) and decide for themselves what they choose to believe. A movie (unless it's an objective, well-balanced documentary) is pretty much meant to be taken at face value. This is what happened. This is how it happened. This is the way it was.

But I'm not looking to argue. And I'm not into censorship. Those, like yourself, who feel they can get something out of it and want to see the movie, should see it. And those who don’t won’t. I'll look forward to your review.

Ugh, can we turn discussion to the content of the film? I really want to know what everyone thinks about the alleged "lack of" (i.e. ominipresence of) incidental music!

And I also hear "Let's roll" is a throwaway line.

"Let's roll" is said once or twice, but the moment I heard it a new round of tears came along.

"Let's roll" didn't register with me. Way too much happening at the end for me to continue looking out for that. Moreover, any ra-rah enthusiasm for that line is underscored by the fact that by the very end, pretty much everyone is in a state of complete terror.

i just got back from seeing it.

i have NEVER cried at a movie before. ever. i was bawling.

i really didn't expect to be hit the way i was by it. i knew what i was going into, but when you're actually watching it, it's just hard to believe. i think it was done great and was very respectful. the violence was done tastefully and while you didn't see much, you knew what was happening, and it made it very powerful. it was reality... our reality. there was a lot i never thought about that was shown in the film, mostly what was going on at air traffic control. i started to lose it when the passengers were calling home and it was all downhill from there. i couldn't even focus on the closing paragraphs because i was crying so hard.

you definitely have to know exactly what you are going into when you see this, and be prepared. it truly is the most powerful thing i have ever seen.

it's going to be a little tough for me to get on that plane to ny tomorrow afternoon now...

I don't know why I noticed it to tell you the truth, I wasn't thinking about it and then he was saying "Let's go, let's go" and I thought about it so I barely caught it.

Man, the final shot sounds genius. I wish tomorrow was free so I didn't have to wait until Sunday to see it.

zepka102- you didn't cry during RENT? Did you get teary eyed?
You will be fine on the plane. Just like 99.99999999999999999999% of flights are fine, so will yours.

I have so much anxiety. My mom (who lives 1000 miles away) is begging me not to see it. I worry about terrorism daily and she is afraid if I see this, my anxiety will be much much worse...and, I'm not doubting it will. Yet, there is something in me that needs to see it.

I am fighting a war with myself and I hate that I'm gonna give in and see it only to be terrified even more than I am now.

That was the exact point that I lost it and exactly how I felt at the end. This movie is so amazingly powerful.

How could it not be powerful? We haven't even healed from the attacks yet - of course it's going to touch us deeply. We're still raw.

So there's no music of any kind?

I am so relieved this film isn't at all like the putrid trailer made it seem to be...

I'm sure it's well crafted, intense, and effective. If it were a fictionalized account of a highjacking, I'd probably see it. But it's not. And there lies the difference.

And why do I have the feeling that it's going to become this year's Passion of the Christ? I was moved by it. I was more moved by it. I've never been more moved by a movie in my entire life! It’s the most viscerally emotional movie of I've ever seen! I can’t put my feelings into words. It’s that powerful! And on ... and on ...
