Wow, when I read about the response of the trailer this weekend, I thought to myself that I'd be ok with it.
Well, just saw the trailer, and I've realized that I'm not ready at all to see a movie about the events that unfolded on 9/11. It brought back all those emotions...

Yea- I may wait for this to come out on video. I'm not sure I want to pay to see a movie that may make me hysterical.
Although it will have spoilers, I need to read others reviews for this one...

Posted: 4/3/06 at 3:39pmCount me on the "skipping it" page. No desire to see it now, or ever. As much as I love the cast, I'm skipping the Oliver Stone one too.

I remember distinctly what it was like to walk through Times Square at 10:40 on Sept. 11, 2001 praying that something was not going to fall out of the sky onto us...wishing I had enough money in the bank to take out more than $80 and hoping it would last me because...well...who knew what was going to happen. I remember being on my roof, smoking cigarettes (I picked the wrong week to quit smoking), looking at the plumes of smoke in lower Manhattan and looking across the river to my home state of NJ, thinking 'If I could just get there, I'd be safe.' I remember wanting to scream at a friend in Las Vegas because he was in a total panic cause he was convinced they were next. How could HE possibly know what it was like. And then I think of my friend Jay who literally ran for his life from the towers and was covered in dust and debris. How could I possibly know what it was like for him.
And since I get on the subway every day praying that this isn't the day they decide to blow them up...or making sure the batteries in my work-issued Emergency Backpack are still good...No...I will not be seeing this film. Probably ever.

Posted: 4/3/06 at 3:57pmThis movie just looks like a large-screen version of the one that aired on A&E Network in January.

Posted: 4/3/06 at 3:57pmi will probably watch it at some point, as i have watched "flight 93" and "the flight that fought back" before it.

Posted: 4/3/06 at 4:01pmI think I could handle watching it on tv (I didn't watch the one on A&E), but definitely not on a movie screen.

for me, i learned some facts that i never knew before. it was hard to watch but i felt compelled to for some reason. i think many people are ready to see this - as long as it is not exploitive. for me, it was much harder to watch the film by the french brothers that was aired on cbs just a few months after 9/11.
i think in some ways people need to be reminded of the horrors of that day because it seems that some people have forgotten and have already become complacent. i'm talking specifically about the TSA and the airlines which are regularly lifting restrictions and gutting security measures put into place because of 9/11.
the public at large is more concerned with how long it takes for them to get through security then really questioning whether the security measures already in place are enough (i do not think they are, as they basically are a lot of smoke and mirrors to make people believe they are safer).

Posted: 4/3/06 at 4:14pmThe concept of this movie makes my teeth hurt. It just proves how low the studios will go to make a buck.
#18re: 'United 93' - are we ready?
Posted: 4/3/06 at 4:17pmi think people are ready though. the last docudrama on 9/11 that aired on a&e scored the network its highest ratings by far. so some people are ready.

Posted: 4/3/06 at 4:19pmI believe some people are ready... and I also believe that there should be a film about it. It inevitable... and at least this one took into consideration that families of all the victims. I just don't think I'm ready, and wonder if the majority of America is.

I agree RobbO.
Although this movie is going to be extremely difficult to watch, I think it is important to know what exactly happened that day and to remember the heroes and those that were lost. I know many of the families wanted this movie to be made.
(families meaning -of the victims recognized in the movie)

Posted: 4/3/06 at 4:23pmplus, as far as the studios "looking to make a buck" off of this, i would highly doubt these films (more than one is going to be released) are an easy sell to the public and i would not think that they will be blockbusters that rake in the dough.

#23re: 'United 93' - are we ready?
Posted: 4/3/06 at 4:27pmi'm sorry for your loss, garland, but rest assured that i do not view it as "entertainment" either. i liken it to schindler's list or titanic or any other movie that depicts an actual event in history like this. it's an opportunity to learn, grieve, and, ultimately, remember what we have lost.

Posted: 4/3/06 at 4:31pmI don't have a problem with a film being made. And, strangely, I'm very interested in documentaries about 9-11. I just find, for me, that narrative film is too emotionally manipulative for this particular subject.
