What's startling about the original, vs. the remake, is how old Davis and Crawford look for their ages. Davis was 53-54 when she made the film, but easily looks 68-70. Ditto Crawford. Was it the different times? Well, yeah. Still, crica when I turned 53, I looked at the clip of Davis looking in the mirror and thought, "It's over." The Redgraves have a different energy, and it's much younger, interestingly enough. But it's not really very good, and I find myself wondering why the hell they did it.
