No spoilers, but the recap is on ESPN right now if you're interested.
Blargum! I was hoping for spoiler info!
argh.
Yes, a HUGE upset today.
SPOILER
Rafa Nadal lost his first round match to Steve Darcis in straight sets.
END SPOILER
Both Murray and Federer won their first round matches today - also in straight sets.
That really opens up that quarter for Federer.
Yes it does. It will now likely be Federer and Murray in the Semifinals. It will be a rematch of last year's Wimbledon final (Federer won) and last year's Gold Medal Match at the Olympics (Murray won). The winner will likely face Novak Djokovic in the final. Looking forward to the next two weeks of play.
I heard about this earlier today. Bummer!
first 2 sets - tiebreakers/
right now - uh-oh.....
Changing lanes slightly, there's a candid pic of Chris Evert, Martina Navratilova and Bill Macatee at the jump. The ladies look splendid.
There's hope still that Maria & Serena will put their egos and of/off-court rivalry aside at some point in the future. I'd like to see them both in the ladies' final but hope the drama surrounding their personal lives will have run its course by then. Chris Evert was notably uncomfortable discussing it on-air given her own background where men are concerned.
Chris & Martina: Back Together Again
Two of my favorites are gone after today... Tsonga and Federer.
This has been a CRAZY three days of Wimbledon so far. Today, eleven seeded players have been eliminated including Azarenka, Ivanovic, Safarova, Jankovic, Wozniacki, and Sharapova on the women's side and Isner, Cilic, Benneteau, Tsonga and Federer on the men's side. Completely INSANE!
This bodes well for Murray provided his back holds up.
Pros are notoriously superstitious. I sense that once the news broke of the early upsets the top seeds went into the matches with that in their head. I remember watching the coverage as a kid when the infamous court #2 was called the graveyard of champions.
Just learned that Sharapova was put out of commission on that very same court.
Another HUGE upset today. Heavy favorite and world #1 Serena Williams has been eliminated by the hard-hitting German Sabine Lisicki in three sets: 6-2, 1-6, 6-4.
That match was crazy this morning. Serena had this very zoned in look during the second set that I thought she was going to dominate the third. At one point during play she yelled "hit that". It was intense.
Hi FRogs!!
You ain't kidding - oy, that was painful to watch. Somehow I kinda knew this catastrophe might happen...
I remember the thoughts I had of a potential Lisicki upset of Serena when the draws were released. She has a streak going of taking out the reigning French Open champion at the Big W which now includes Serena. Well done Sabine. I'm now predicting a Lisicki-Kvitova ladies final. If Kvitova doesn't make it that far, there will be a new first-time ladies champion crowned at Wimbledon which is somewhat exciting.
