i saw speed racer last night. if i wasnt with some people i seriously wouldve left in the first five minutes. first off its seriously almost two and a half hourse long. second, it has like a 30 page script because the whole things about freakin driving, but thats a good thing since the stuff said is so cheesy it actually traumatized me. bad acting. bad effects. my eyes still hurt from it.

Yes and in 28 years they will make a campy musical of it and sweep the Tonys.
I'm not understanding why they thought this would be a good thing to turn into a live action movie. Never watched the show, but I know it was Japanese anime, which made it sort of cool.
i heard that it was set for fall '09, joe: matt cavanaugh as speed, norbert as racer x, shuler hensley as pops, lupone as mom, laura belle bundy as trixie, rob maitner as spritle and eddie varley as chim chim. sets by david rockwell, lighting by natasha katz and directed by jerry zaks.
ya but the people in front of us were like high and screaming and laughing and reenacting everything the actors did. it was fabulous. everyone ended up just watching them =-DDDDD
I actually saw the movie today and I enjoyed it. I think that you either have to be a fan of the tv series or a young kid to really get a kick out of the movie.
I really liked it because I thought it stuck pretty close to the anime. Of course the dialogue and acting is going to be cheesy! If you have ever watched the tv show, it was pretty much the exact same thing. Plus what were you expecting to see in a movie called Speed Racer? Kittens? It's a really great family film to see.
Now if you really want to talk about a crappy movie, let's talk about Nim's Island. That movie was horrid. I wouldn't wish this movie on ANYONE.

I haven't seen the movie, but watched the cartoon as a kid - I loved that the backgrounds repeated after about 10 seconds!
That and Kimba the White Lion (the forefather of Simba, of the Lion King).
Loved them both!

Not everything that is old always needs improving Lepetite. Some fans like to keep it original. If the directors tried to change any of the characters, then fans would be whining over why they "improved" the series. I mean, take a look at that awful show, Speed Racer: The Next Generation.

How long until we hear about Chicago and Moulin Rouge?
I'm still waiting for my cavemen musical: "Neanderthrill!"
I HATE MOVIES!
Might as well get them all out of the way.
I loved Kimba.

I never doubted that the Warchowskis had it in them to make a really dreadful movie, after sitting through MATRIX RELOADED and MATRIX REVOLUTIONS. I watched the first few minutes of SPEED RACER on yahoo, and was amused at how bad it was. It might be worth checking out.
For those who have seen it: do we have a new SHOWGIRLS on our hands, or just another crappy movie that we'll all regret having wasted time on?
Sounds like the latter.
And SHOWGIRLS is not a bad movie.

Love me some SHOWGIRLS, a joy to behold, one of the great So Bad It Is Good Masterworks.
But I think it is a bad movie. Really bad. God, it is dreadful.
You sure it's worse than THE JERKY BOYS? Cause even the underscoring in that one sucks.

Is this at least "funny-bad" like Flash Gordon?
