I thought Dakota John was great and that most of the sketches were pretty funny. I'm surprised we haven't heard more about the ISIS stuff, especially from the "SNL is toothless" crowd.

The ISIS sketch was the best. Nice to see SNL risking pissing people off again. Taran Killim was wonderful.
"Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.”

Could someone please explain to me what SNL'S fascination is with the terrorist group ISIS?
They did a skit about them when Chris Rock was host. I chalked that up as an aberration. Last night, they did another one. I know they want to be edgy but somehow I do not see any humor in any sketch involving these wackos.
I have endured a lot over the years and can forgive some unfunny sketches. Doing one involving these thugs crosses the line with me.
I am done with them. I know people will start to hurl crap my way but that is their opinion. If it does not bother you fine. Keep watching.

hmmm, I don't know. I didn't watch last night but I didn't think the last one was funny. I'm not able to see the humor in Isis. I mean, we hate them and they don't deserve reverence, but I can't laugh. Maybe if I saw that sketch I would have laughed.

Yeah Roxy you are way too PC! You don't understand satire?
I found the sketch brilliant and actually quite sharp edged! Yes, funny in it's twist. That is seeing that recruits for Isis coming from the US and other countries tend to be middle to upper class kids of college age.

I thought that was going to be a spoof on a Hallmark commercial last night but when I saw ISIS pull up, I burst out laughing.

It was spoofing the Toyota "My Bold Dad" commercial.
I think Roxy was in SNL's target demographic when Lincoln was shot.

On the USA today website is a story about the sketch. It seems I was not the only one who found the sketch offensive.

Good for you, Roxy. I've turned away from things I loved in the past when they went in a direction that was antithetical to my deeply held convictions. Like Prince.
We won't be seeing you in this thread anymore, so, farewell and godspeed.

I think it's important to laugh at people who try to scare us.

I respect your opinion but totally disagree with it.
To include these people in a skit to elicit laughter seems to be desperate. I can never find anything associated with them funny in any way.

So you should leave this thread and never return. Why darken your lips with the mention of SNL ever again?

I get that but find it scary rather than funny, when you consider that educated people choose that life.

As is typical, all of the usual Rupert Murdoch media outlets are OUTRAGED by the commercial parody and helpfully posting the entire thing on their websites so others can be OUTRAGED too.

So maybe they did a sketch that didn't land with some people, like so many in the past. Shall we just move on in hopes of something we like better next time?

Jane, I do fine it funny that these kids join ISIS and then are upset when they can't get iPhone reception or an outlet to recharge.

No, but the set up was exactly that, a privileged upper middle class girl being driven to the airport by her Dad. A parody of a car commercial where a father drives his college aged daughter to the airport to join the Army. The iPhone antidote was one I read in an article somewhere online along with a pair of friends who joined ISIS, realized what it really was about, one ran away, the second asked to leave and was killed.
