Ha, I wish I could see him sing Right Brain.
"The questions at the Chicago signing that were the closest to being "stupid" questions were "How tall are you?" (Anthony: (?)... 5'9" ~pauses and laughs~ I bare my soul to you and you ask me how tall I am? ~in a laughing, melodramatic manner~) and "Did you ever get sick of seeing Idina's ass?" (Anthony: ~with smile~ "Would you?"). "
Quite true. I guess I blocked those out of my mind... And btw he is definitely not that tall. lol.
I want to see him sing anything... I couldn't even really see him when he sang SoL at the signing.

He's taller than me. But true, he's not as tall as my uncles (who are over 6').

Want me to see if I can get him to come to central Illinois or some city in or around southern Illinois so you can see him sing?

Me too... But not by 9 inches. He's probably more like... 5' 6" or something. But I'm not going to get all obsessive about it. jeez. lol.

woot! really it wasn't that far a trip for me, but hey, i'll go wherever... i would love to be one of the lucky people to see him multiple times. i remember you had quite a trek that night to get there... wasn't it like, 4 hours or something? ah, for the love of Anthony...

3-and-a-half-hour drive from central Illinois to the bookstore (my boyfriend drove an extra 2 hours from our home area). We were thinking that this would be the only spot that Anthony would go to in the Midwest that was a reasonable distance to drive. And then, St. Louis was scheduled (. . . which is a lot closer ~shrugs~ Oh, well.).
ah, for the love of Anthony...
I read in a Live Journal entry that one group of people drove to a book signing in Virginia all the way from Michigan (and they knew that he was coming to Michigan in the future).

Does anyone else notice that every time someone asks him how tall he is he increases by an inch? First, I heard 5'7, then at a booksigning a while back he said 5'8, and now 5'9?
Not that it's a big deal or anything, but he's definitely not 5'9.
Opiv, *love* your new icon. Oh, Mr. Stewart.
ETA: I just found something poking around on Live Journal-
Ask Paul Sullivan
The Cubs beat writer answers readers' e-mail questions
'I know I'm not as famous as John Cusack or Jim Belushi, but people know me from "Rent" and "Adventures in Babysitting" and "Dazed and Confused," among other film and theatre projects. I'm a Chicago-area native (Joliet, to be exact) and a HUGE Cubs fan, following them via the internet from NYC. I'd love to offer my services, if you're still looking. No matter what, I appreciate your work and dedication. Even if you're cynical sometimes...' --Anthony Rapp, New York

...sorry for the length of this post. :/
Wow, I thought I changed my avatar back to the Anthony one. Oh well, Jon Stewart is amazing.
Agreed. Jon Stewart rocks. I have to admit that I spent election night in 2004 watching his coverage.

Despite the horridness of the election results, he made them...ALMOST okay. <3Stewart.

poor Anthony. Why didn't he comment on his actual post instead of saying 'Sorry never heard of you'.

I guess he didn't hear about the three hundred plus people at the Chicago book signing. I'm kind of surprised he hasn't heard of Adventures in Babysitting. Even my father's heard of it. (Then again, my parents are movie buffs. And my boyfriend never heard of it until I showed it to him back in Feb.)
Rent fans in the area want to write to Paul Sullivan?
However, this guy does remind us of one thing. Despite how popular Rent was and still is, the average Joe still has no clue who Anthony is. He can walk on the streets without being attacked by paparazzi.
Then again, I'm continually surprised how many non-theatre high school and college students recognize him from Dazed and Confused and Road Trip.
Here's a great example. Seth, my boyfriend, was showing the picture of Anthony and me in the "tango pose" to show his fellow band members what I look like (at the time, it was the only picture he had of me). Since I don't have their permission to use their real names, I'll call the band members "L" and "K."
L had seen the picture before and asked at the time who the guy was. Seth said he played Mark in the Rent movie. L's reaction was an "...oh..." He had pretty much demissed Rent as a "chick flick."
Seth told K that this picture was taken at a book signing with someone from Rent. K (not the brightest bulb but very sweet) surprised Seth by asking him:
K: "Hey, isn't that the guy from Dazed and Confused?!"
L then looked at the picture again.
L: (in excited voice) "Dude, it is!"
Suddenly, the picture became cool to them. Anthony went from being an unknown to being a celebrity to these guys in a few seconds.
I think the point of this post is that Anthony's status as a celebrity is pretty much isolated to particular groups of people. One minute, he has screaming, hyperventilating fans. The next, he can walk down a street without people giving him a second glance.
Sorry for rambling on like this. Now back to your regularly scheduled programming.

Edit: I also enjoy Jon Stewart.

Well, he certainally had screaming, hyperventilating fans at the Tribeca Family Film Festival. xD
How did people hear about that gig? I... had no idea it existed.

Neither did I. I just went to the Tribeca Family Festival because it was two blocks away from my house, and he was listed as a performer in the little diagram/map they give out. It was pure luck I even saw his name- I usually don't look at the performance list, because it's mostly high school performances and Radio Disney.
That's kind of random. But it sounds like it was fun! And I did just see Anthony, so even though it would've been fun to watch him sing, I can't complain.

It was very nice, and despite all the obvious teenage multitudes who only know him from the movie version of Rent, personal. At least more than the NYC booksigning back in February- I actually got to talk to him.
Exciting. yay!
Broadway Legend Joined: 12/26/05
Indeed. (And complete icon love.)
heh, thanks. What did you talk about?
Broadway Legend Joined: 12/26/05
Well, it wasn't a full-out discussion or anything like that. I mostly acted like a bumbling idiot while thanking him and telling him that I loved his work in Rent, Hedwig, and that I also immensely enjoyed his book.
And I believe I also managed to make it into a long, run-on sentence, mostly because I wanted to mention Hedwig in a way where he hopefully wouldn't ask where I'd seen him in it. *cough*
There was still a lengthily line (it wasn't that personal- just compared to some of the wilder book signings) so that was pretty much it. He was staring at me pretty intently, though, while listeing to me and thanking me- it was kind of unnerving, but nice.

I'm glad that you got a chance to talk to him, Dramatic_Irony.
Is it just me or is it a little scary that Anthony's myspace page almost has 5,000 friends (more than double the population of my hometown)?
Mariel
Psh. The amount of friends isn't scary. The comments are downright frightening. The fact that these are actual human beings is just terrifying- I can't imagine *ever* acting that creepy towards someone I claim to admire. I was trying to pick out a most extreme example, but a. I couldn't decide which was the worst, and b. I don't want these people hearing that I'm talking about them and hunting me down!

Was Anthony the one who received a MySpace marriage proposal? Or was that Adam?

Very true. Some of the comments do remind me of "Perfect" (his stalker song). "Did you get my note/I sent it just last week." "I'm waiting for your call."

I think Adam because I don't remember it on Anthony's myspace. However, I don't check it everyday.
