I'm sorry to hear about your mom's negative response to the book. I was hoping she would have a better reaction to it.
My mother will most likely read the book this week since I'm home for spring break. Knowing her, I know she will open herself to it. But I'm concern about how it might open up some wounds. I was going to save this info for my review of the book but I might as well tell it now. (I hoping to get the review out this week sometime.) My aunt (my mother's only sister) died from brain cancer almost three years ago (in fact the anniversary is coming up in a few weeks). Some of the details Anthony mentioned in the book really brought back some strong memories of her final weeks. If the book had this strong of an effect on me, I know it will be stronger with my mother (especially since she helped take care of her during her illness). I want to be there with her as she reads it. Not only to do our usual dialogue when we watch a movie or read a book together. I also want to be there to comfort her. I know how much her sister's death has affected her. I'm also hoping this will open up a discussion. I have many questions I've been wanting to ask her about my aunt's last days. We'll see.
On a happier note, I'm in the process of writing my report/review of the current touring cast of Rent. Expect it soon.

Question:
My friend was going to the signing with me tomorrow, but she's sick. If I bring hwer book with me, will I be able to get both of them signed?
You can usually get more than one thing signed.

You shouldn't have any problems. I was able to get my friend's CD insert signed at the Oak Park, IL signing along with my book.

My mom is reading the book now. Hopefully, she won't have a bad reaction to anything. My only thought is that she might be a little weird with knowing that I've read the 'coming out' section of it, but then again, I think she's gotten over that whole thing. She started a few days ago and has actually gotten a good ways through it. I was really surprised. I'm also hoping that she can take some things from it because both of her parents have cancer.

Anthony has a podcast this week on KQED's Writer's Block. It's a weekly reading series featuring writers and performers of all stripes reading the latest short fiction, non-fiction, theater and poetry. Anthony reads from the chapter "Saviors and Angels" on the podcast. It's available as a MP3 download and as a Real Player/Real One streaming audio file.

Heh, now I see that it says Narrator next to his name. Fun!
Maybe I'll get it and play it for my mom in her sleep. Just to piss her off.
Animated Anthony is fun.
Well, I'm not speaking to her. Just for a little while. I don't think she's caught onto it yet.
Thanks!
