Posted: 10/17/06 at 2:50pmYou can't go wrong with cocktail weenies. They look as good as they taste. And they come in this delicious red sauce. It looks like ketchup, it tastes like ketchup, but brother, it ain't ketchup!

I love pot stickers.
YUM!
My mom used to make these little chicken egg rolls. Those were really good, but I don't know the recipe.

Mmm. Appetizers.
Veggie platters are good. Fresh mozzarella and tomato slices. Potato puffs. Stuffed mushrooms. Shrimp wrapped in bacon. Skewers with cherry tomatoes, mozzarella, and basil. Mini focaccia pizzas.
I know it sounds like a cocktail hour at a wedding, but isn't that the best part anyway?

Posted: 10/17/06 at 4:20pmEveryone goes crazy for a good dip. No party is complete without it. Spinach is great, as it artichoke. Another really great one is coconut shrimp. You can find the recipe online. Coconut shrimp with thai sauce for dipping is amazing.

The most popular hors d'oeurve I served at a party was Adobe Eggs. Basically, they are boiled eggs pickled overnight in apple cider vinegar, allspice, garlic, ground black pepper, bay leaf and beet juice. They turn a pretty purple color and are yummy. I served them with chopped onion and caviar. I love a good artichole dip. And if you have the time (and enough carnivores), swedish meatballs are almost always a big hit. For vegetarians, cold vegetarian spring rolls are no difficult to make and are quite popular. Serve with duck sauce or peanut sauce.
New favorite appetizer at a restaurant is the Asian Nachos at Grand Lux Cafe. Fried wontons (flat) topped with thinly sliced sauteed chicken, melted chihuahua cheese, chives, toasted sesame seeds, and drizzled with cream, wasabi sauce, and a sweet peanut sauce. Fantastic!

Matt - those Asian Nachos are probably my favorite snack/appetizer ever!
Pot-stickers/egg rolls are always very popular and not difficult to prepare/serve.
And you can never go wrong with any kind of dip.

When I make the following, or serve the following at functions (I'm an event planner) they always go first:
Artichoke dip (served nice and warm) with pita chips and tortilla chips
Mini bruschettas - a bit messy but popular
Scallops wrapped in bacon
Any chilled seafood/raw bar type items (shrimp cocktail, cherrystones, oysters, crab legs, smoked salmon, etc.). Just make sure you can keep it chilled at the party.
And believe it or not - a good cheese, crackers and fruit platter is always a crowd pleaser - and is always nice with whatever wine you are serving.
And I know none of us like to admit it (but I know we all love 'em) - the little cocktail weenies wrapped in the plain old refrigerated crescent roll dough and toasted up nice are a true guilty pleasure for me!
