I have a recipe for a yummy simple hot Vidalia onion dip. Diced vidalia, cream cheese, a touch of mayo, lots of fresh grated parmesan. Mix together, place in a baking dish, sprinkle a seasoning salt (I use Tony Chachere seasoning) and bake at 350 for about an hour. Serve with toasted bread or tortilla chips. SOOO easy and SOOO good.
You can never go wrong with a good hummus or tepenade.

How high/low brow is this party going to be? I make a dip that is so good I fear it is the only reason I get invited to some parties.
The recipe calls for:
1 block of Mexican Velveeta (mild)
1 can of cream of mushroom soup
3 tablespoons of salsa
1 pound of ground beef
Double or triple the recipe depending on your guest list and/or the size of your crockpot.
Yes, it is cheap. Yes, it is trashy. Yes, it is absolutely delicious. I get a free pass on the Velveeta/cream of mushroom thing because I live in Georgia, but even the most die-hard culinary palates have succumbed to this concoction.
If you are embarrassed about the ingredients you could probably spin some tale about making it all from scratch, but make sure you look into the reducing of cheese sauces and stuff to sound authentic. Plus, if you want to cater to the vegetarian crowd, I know from experience that this recipe works just as well with Boca Ground or Morningstar Farms Veggie Griddlers.
This dip works in a variety of mediums, but for added-fun white-trashiness it goes best with Frito Scoops.

BWAH! Hilarious, Jaily. Me too. When I hear the word Velveeta I may as well be hearing "Spamburger." *cringes*
To each their own, though. I personally love Kraft Macaroni and Cheese, and it's my one concession to white trash cuisine. I rarely have it, but every once in a while it hits the spot.

Posted: 10/18/06 at 12:32pmI actually did white trash Pennsylvania cuisine last year. This year we're raising the brow slightly.

I have done parties and most people love dumplings and finger foods.

Since the best food in the entire world can be found in Pennsylvania, your party must have had really good eats! Here's one that I made up, that has taken hold, over the years, at least locally here in Northern Virginia. I was at a party, a couple of weeks ago, and they were being served!
As I do all my cooking from sight and taste, I'm not sure of a real recipe; but this is close, and you can't really ruin these. You can mulitiply, as required.
A can of chopped black olives (must be chopped, not sliced)
Large English Muffins
Mayonnaise
small sweet onion - diced
8 oz shredded cheddar cheese
Toast the muffins
In a bowl, mixed all ingredients together. Use enough mayo, to hold the ingredients together. Spread onto toasted english muffins and broil in oven, until cheese has melted. Cut into quarters. Easy, and they're delicious. The best part is that no one has every had them before.

I went to an event last week at the Metropolitan pavilion and they had the best appetizers. I could not get over the quality.
They made dumplings, mini latkes, tuna tartar in a pastry crust,
grilled shrimp on a stick.
They also had baby lambchops, brisket, scallops. It was all bite size tapas and it was fantastic for foodies!
I prefer tapas to entrees anyday!

And I could live on shrimp alone. (If only it had less cholesterol)
Oatmeal and shrimp. LOL!

You know, I get that ALL the time. I mean, if ONE MORE PERSON says to me "Helena, I just LOVED YOU as Saffy in Edina's Death Dream Sequence", I am going to kill myself.
(And try a blend of cream cheese, chives, and sundried tomatoes with endive. Heavenly!)

These are dead simple to make and always go down real fast:
Crackers with lo-fat cream cheese , a slice of smoked salmon and a grind of black pepper.
Garlic bread, or bruschetta is also nice ( rub toasted bread with garlic, olive oil and some salt and spread tomatoes on top with a basil leaf for garnish)
For myself, I like to eat Kettle Chips and Anchovy Olives.
Enjoy the party!
