What are your first memories with pizza.... — Page 2

Velvetta? Isn't there a passage in Leviticus about eating Velvetta? If not there should be, it is an abomination!

I hated McDonald's, but my siblings loved it as a treat. I remember one of their few things I could stomach was their brief fling with pizza, not that I can imagine it being any good.

confession - I have eaten at a Chinese buffet a few times. Of course I enjoy a lot of the Chinese delicacies, but they make a tasty pizza! very soggy but good.

In Canada they had little personal pizzas...

7-11 makes pizza now. They cook in some sort of convection oven and it takes 90 seconds to cook. I have never tried it and I never will but I see people in there ordering a slice or two all of the time. All the while I am thinking, "Dude, Joey's Pizza is two blocks away and they make great pizza from scratch!"

Doc's Pizzarama, 90 4th St, Passaic, NJ. That was 1957, I was a 7 year old second grader growing up in a neighborhood of mostly Polish immigrants and pizza was new to us, and an immediate hit! I remember they had a juke box, we hung out there a lot and dropped a lot of nickels. I can still remember the smell whenever I pass by a good pizza place today.

Where I grew up in New England was a big Italian area. Strangely enough, the most popular pizza in the state was called "bakery pizza". You got it at Italian bakeries. It was cold, no cheese, just tomato sauce, little 3" squares. The crust was more the texture of a focaccia.

You would buy it by the box. A box held about 96 of these little squares, 4 layers of 24 separated by a sheet of bakery paper. You would buy these boxes and bring them to parties, events, etc. I know cold, no-cheese pizza sounds awful to some. But it was awesome! Regular pizza existed there, of course, but it was more the food of college kids or kids with the munchies. I don't think I had regular pizza until I was in my 20s.

Yes I do. I especially loved the gooey richness of the thick hot mozzarella dripping down the corner of my mouth and down my chin.

I'm messy.

First memories are Wednesdays as a child because that was pizza day at school but we only got "square" pizza never "triangle" pizza.

I think schools were famous for the sicilian cardboard because it could fit into the lovely rectangle space on the tray.
