What do you buy a boyfriend?

I hear ya Flowery... I have the same problem. Mine is a scientist devoted to his work, so little stands out in regards of his exterior wants. Right now all I have gotten him is socks and a book on Dame Judi Dench... and it makes me feel bad because since last Thursday a UPS package has come almost every day that are gifts for me, from him. One package was from Tiffany's!
I guess I'm lucky... I have someone that gets more out of giving, than getting... but still, I wish I could find that perfect gift for him.

Actually, Paradox might be joking...but, depending upon how "close" you are or have been with him, something a bit more...personal...might not be such a bad idea.

Underwear. Every year. Something distinctive so he thinks of you every time he wears them.
Bought mine his "Christmas Boxers" last night!

1. Okay, I should mention something else... Earlier this month, I bought us Cinnabon one day, and he said that was my Christmas present to him. Later that day, he rapped for me, and I said that was his Christmas present to me. But, um, I'm pretty sure that he's going to get me something else anyway, because that's the way he is. I think he just doesn't want me to give him anything at all. Because he's strange. I don't know.
2. CostumeMistress, that's brilliant.
3. Racetrack, will do.
4. EadieWasALady, I like your style. Sounds fabulous. Unfortunately, I am the world's worst cook. I also have no place to cook for him.
5. CelestialEntropy, wow... May all your problems be that bad.
6. theninthshow, keep waiting. Someday your prince will come.
7. theatreboi11, thanks. I'll look for White Sox stuff.
8. paradox_error, as much as I'm sure he'd love it... not happening.
9. bmeonbway2, thanks for the ideas. I don't have the money for an iPod (though I know he wants one). He's not big into clothes, and I don't want to mess with cologne. I'll be seeing him next week, so I don't think a plane ticket is great. He already has a ticket to Wrestlemania in April. All good thoughts, though.
10. bwaysinger, first of all, it's VERY weird that you have jerby as an avatar. I keep getting confused. Second, we're not as, um, 'close' as I think you're suggesting.
11. JoeKv99, that's an intruiging suggestion. I think I'd feel weird giving him underwear, though. Besides, I haven't a clue as to his size.

That's what he is.
My boyfriend is the love interest in a chick flick.
And I'm the comedic-screw-up/daimsel-in-distress.
Drat!
Ah! But you know how all those romantic comedies turn out. Happily ever after!
I wish you much luck in finding your gifts. Wish I had one to buy one for.

What about.. A CD (or two), or the White Sox hat, or whatever... plus a mix cd made by YOU as well?
All meaningful and stuff, that way.

~ff~ has clearly stated that she has no place to cook, suggested that parading around in sexy lingerie isn't appropriate to the stage their relationship is at, and has reminded us that she is a 19 year old college student who, if I haven't misjudged, would have been part of the flower and granola crowd if she was 30 years older. So please...let's get back to reality with the suggestions.
I would think about a boxed set of books (I went with the pricey Calvin and Hobbes for my husband's birthday, but the concept works) or a small object of art. A photo you've taken in a nice frame. Or find a gift shop that has cool stuff. I'm always drawn to little kaleidoscopes or glass paperweights...one of a kind things that won't break the bank. And maybe it's just me, but I think a well-chosen scarf...something that is unique or special in color or texture...can feel like a very personal gift without crossing the line into territory you're not ready to enter yet.

I like the concept of a gift that builds on itself... sort or revealing itself one step at a time. I think you should get him tickets to something that he's interested in... then you give him some sort of loosely related thing, to hint to it, then get warmer and warmer...
Example:
Gift #1: A Baseball.
Gift #2: White Sox hat or shirt.
Gift #3: Peanuts and Cracker Jacks.
Gift #4: Pair of White Sox Tickets for a game this coming spring/summer.

1. Bal, thanks. I'll try the Mix CD idea and see if I can make anything worth listening to.
2. Thanks Corine. Unfortunately, that's not going to work. See iflitifloat's explanation as to why.
3. Mister Matt... um, thanks but no thanks.
4. iflitifloat, have I told you lately that I love you? Thanks for your suggestions. I think they're great and will certainly keep them in mind when I go out shopping.
5. ckeaton, see, this is why I like you. This whole "older brother" role you play for me is a big help. Brilliant idea. I have no idea where either he or I is going to end up this summer or what our schedules will be like, so I may have to just give him the promise of future tickets... we'll see. But this idea has definite potential.
6. Sorry Mamie... I'm not that kind of girl.

I have this feeling that I'm going to get him something stupid, and he's going to get me something amazing... and then I'll feel like a shmuck, and he'll say something cheesy-yet-perfect that sounds like it came straight out of the mouth of the love interest in a chick flick...
YES YES YES! That's exactly what I'm afraid of! And I have never been in a relationship around the holidays/birthdays, so this is ALL new to me.

1. MyNameInLights, this is my first relationship, hence why I'm so lost. Nice to know that other people experience the same thing.
2. theninthshow and CJR, may the new year bring you new loves.
3. CostumeMistress, that sounds like fun. I don't know if there is one of those places near him or near our school. I'll look.
