dollypop i did not object to ur joke!!!! i defended it!!!!!!
I just think it's funny that this thread started as a joke that one person found offensive and others defended, and then it took an Asian-Canadian agnostic gal to come and threadjack this to become all about Jewish cuisine!
You're welcome!
Also, are bagels "authentic" Jewish food, or are they "Jewish" in the same way sweet and sour chicken balls are "authentic Chinese food"?

Chickens don't have balls. Only roosters do.
hee HEE...that was so juvenile yet I'm still giggling.

I am 47 and I am entitled to be juvenile once in awhile. If you don't let me, I will hold my breath until
I turn blue
I will let you be juvenile as often as you can come up with zingers like that.

You're on!!
In the mean time, I'm still waiting for an answer to my question about bagels! (Which are my favorite source of complex carbohydrates.)

I'm not sure. Bagels aren't Jewish in the sense that latkes are- they don't have any association with a holiday. But I guess until recently they've been ethnically Jewish (probably Ashkenazi).

I think anyone who can't or won't laugh at themselves has serious shame issues. Satire is love.

Yep. Another dead thread being bumped by me. I just thought of this when I was reading the Turkey thread. A lot of Jewish people don't eat meat with dairy, right? I was just curious why that was. A Jewish friend told me it had something to do with not eating the calf with its mother (I'm sure I mangled that some how) but I would like to know what the Torah says about this.

Yeah, I think it's something to do with the cruelty of eating the animal and depriving its baby of food. Or something. I've read the relevant text, but that was years ago, and frankly I don't care. Most of the kosher dietary restrictions look like early anti-food poisoning precautions to me.

G-d said not to boil a kid { goat} in its mother's milk. It is disrespectful of life. That is why Jews dont eat meat and dairy together.
Ahh okay that makes sense! Thanks for the clarification! (And, uh, feel free to come to me for Chinese New Year traditions in February so I can reciprocate the cultural knowledge!
