What has children's television come to?

Yesterday (for some weird reason) I was thinking of this OLD (EDIT: I just meant that they are old. sorry.) live action series I used to watch on the old Disney Channel. When I was little I had Welcome to Pooh Corner, Dumbo's Circus, Adventure's in Wonderland, Lamb Chop's Play along and many others. All haven't been heard from in years and when I go back and watch how kid shows were back then it got me thinking....what has children's TV come to? With the exception of Johnny and the Sprites all of the children shows (such as Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, The Backyardigans, Dora the Explorer, Charlie and Lolla, and many many more) suck. Go on YT and see what I mean! Type in Pooh Corner or Dumbo's Circus, watch those, and then watch what we have now. Disney Channel used to be for familys but know it's for nothing but tweens.

believe me, those of us who grew up on kukla, fran & ollie, shari lewis & lambchop, big blue marble, captain kangaroo, mr rogers neigborhood. zoom & the electric company, think that childrens programming has sucked for decades!!!!

& arent those shows you are referring to as "OLD OLD OLD" from the 90s?

thats kind of rude.

Not that you're biased or anything.

Dora the Explorer isn't on the Disney Channel (or Chanelle) but it is a decent show for children. After witnessing a 3-year-old non-Hispanic child greets another child they know speaks only Spanish with "Hola!" because they learned it from Dora, I don't see how anyone can complain.

Skittles, how fortunate. I don't think I've ever seen a white child speak spanish. Without Dora's help, that is.

I was OBSESSED with Welcome to Pooh Corner from ages 3 to 6. It was a huge part of my childhood. I miss it so much. re: What has children's television come to?

dame&sir, I thought "3-year-old-non-fluently-Spanish-speaking" was a bit much and was trying to figure out a better way of stating it to edit my post. Forgive me for having internet connection issues and taking so long to change it. re: What has children's television come to?

Most children's programming is about selling kids products they don't need. True, some have a educational agenda, but most on commerical television are about bringing customers to their advertisers products.

Up until I was 12, I was only allowed to watch T.V. for one hour each day, usually SESAME STREET or MR. ROGERS' NEIGHBORHOOD and (when I got older) 3-2-1 CONTACT or SQUARE 1 (I loved that MATHNET segment at the end).

i mean, if i used the phrase "OLD OLD OLD", i'd be referring to something from the 18th century...not a decade ago.

Find me a child who's interested in products they need.

Certainly not a child that has the time/resources available to be regularly watching TV.

I remember when I was 4 or 5 years old, I used to watch a lot of Sesame Street and Lamb Chop (right before it got cancelled, I believe). I probably have a Lamb Chop tape in the garage right now...

I also watched Eureka's Castle (Thanks skittles). Such a cute show!

I know "Dora" isn't on Disney CHANNEL but it's still kids programming.

I ment to put in Lamb Chop, Electric Company, Mr. Rogers, and the earlier Sesame Street (the new one suck)

Sesame Street now revolves around Elmo, Cookie Monster eats fruit and veggies now, and Frank Oz is gone. Horrible.

Cookie Monster eats fruits and vegetables now?! I am outraged! He is COOKIE Monster. That puppet ruled because he attacked cookies, but never really ate a bit of one. Boo!

I remember Sesame Street when Mr. Hooper was on, anyone else?
