What is Sally Brown?

Seriously, what is this annoying poster supposed to be? In one thread, (s)he claims to be 14 years old and in another, talks about a coffee addiction. Are we seeing a child trying act like an adult or an adult trying to pass themselves off as a child.

Hopefully, not the latter because that is too #@*^ing creepy for words.

re: What is Sally Brown?

Sally is a 14 year old wo is wise beyond her years. And it is possible to have a coffee addiction at 14, I know that I did.

re: What is Sally Brown?

Never the less, as a parent, I can't tell you how disturbing I found it when she ventured into the Cruising thread and attempted to banter about something she knows nothing about. Part of being wise beyond your years is to have common sense about who you are interacting with and being able to read the signs that you are somewhere inappropriate.

re: What is Sally Brown?

why do people create threads bashing people!? if its all in good fun (the BWW Novel) than its ok... but how would you like it if people publiclly ganged up on you. and especially on a message board!? thats pretty low. i know you're going to have some smart come-back and use my age against me but i just want you to think about what you are doing!? why not PM her with your thoughts!? if you think that this is a fun/clever thing to do and that people will applaud you, well, they might but i just think that its immature.

re: What is Sally Brown?

I'm turning 14 in a week and I have a slight coffee addiction. (not quite an addiction....obsession may be a better term.) I hope that doesn't make me scary.

re: What is Sally Brown?

I find it equally adult to make a whole thread dedicated to bashing a poster who only wants to contribute to this board.

re: What is Sally Brown?

Who was bashing? Can someone, anyone, point out which sentence in my post was bashing?
I asked a legitimate question. I was wondering if this person is what she claimed or doing some sort of character as many on the board do. I also seriously wonder where your parents are when you are developing a coffee addiction at age 14. These are questions adults sometimes ask. When you grow up, you may ask the same questions of others.

re: What is Sally Brown?

She might be only 14 but the majority of her posts are well thought out and meaningful. I'm 21 and i don't understand what the cruising thread is, mainly because i haven't read it granted... but there's a kind of language barrier between colloquial language used in America and England. You holiding it against me?... or does my age excuse me of any attack?

Sally keep your chin up chuck... i enjoy reading your posts!

OFF TOPIC- What is it with Americans and kids drinking coffee? I don't know any child that is refused coffee if they want it!

re: What is Sally Brown?

You make sound like it's a sin that parents let kids drink coffee at 14. It's not a big deal. Coffee now and then is fine. Those "stunt your growth" rumors I heard are bullsh*t. I drank at 12/13. lol

re: What is Sally Brown?

Well, if you think having a coffee addiction at the age of 14 is bad, try having it at the age of 9! My cousin is drinking the stuff constantly...I never drink it!

re: What is Sally Brown?

Well if you didn't want it to seem like an attack on her then maybe you should have brought it up in a PM with her instead of ostracizing her in front of the whole board as a potential phony. It really isn't classy.

We are paranoid about keeping our children safe. Plus the caffeine supposedly would drive them up the wall. Lots of parents don't allow soda either but I grew up on that stuff and I'm not dead yet and I don't have a criminal record.

re: What is Sally Brown?

It's not a sin, it's irresponsible parenting.

And yet nobody has pointed me to this horrible Sally bashing sentence in my post.

The same exact thing happened when I had that one feud with Namo...orion thought I couldn't make meaningful posts because I was 12. Come on, that's low, and this thread is too.

re: What is Sally Brown?

No I am not. My aunt dilutes her kids' juice, for crying out loud.

A "bash" is anything that might be taken as duragatory to the "bashee". It is generally done in a public forum. If dedicating a thread to pointing someone out as an annoying poster or potential stalker type (adult posing as a child) isn't a bash, I'm not quite sure what a bash is then. And for what? Drinking coffee? Please. . .

re: What is Sally Brown?

Orion: I'm guessing the fact that you referred to her as a "what," rather than a "who" may have contributed to people thinking you're bashing her. You also called her annoying, and implied that her parents are irresponsible, which isn't really bashing per-say, but isn't particularly nice, either.

Beergoggles: I actually think it's good that a lot of parents limit soda and coffee. I mean those drinks won't kill kids, but they aren't extremely healthy.

re: What is Sally Brown?

Sally Brown is a wonderful friend and who is great to talk to. What is wrong with her drinking coffee? When I was her age my friend was drinking coffee( though I didn't think that she needed it.) If you have a question you should PM her insted of accusing her to be somthing that she isn't

Each to their own i suppose! In this life though what is healthy seriously?

Salmon can actually give you cancer (small chances but it's proven!)
Alcohol pickles the liver and destroys numerous brain cells each time it is consumed. However because it is socially acceptable people don't seem to mind!

re: What is Sally Brown?

Orion - I find it rather insulting that you would call parents who let their kids drink coffee "irresponsible." There are such things as decaf coffee.

I would find it better to call a parent irresponsible when a child is going out every weekend getting drunk, and smoking. NOT drinking coffee.

re: What is Sally Brown?

Orion-my mom makes me coffee every morning. What's wrong with that? In fact, she's very protective of me. While a lot of my friends are allowed in the city alone, I'm not. I wasn't even allowed to cross the street alone until I was 11! She checks into everything I do, and she's extremely responsible and protective. I don't get away with anything.

re: What is Sally Brown?

I'm still looking for the reason Sally wrote "Another reason why America's stupid." Now that's some paint-bashing of an entire nation with a very wide brush.

re: What is Sally Brown?

At least Elizabeth, shows some intelligence and maturity to be able to explain something clearly and make a point. My use of the word what isn't indicative of my thnking the person is something less than human. If you read the way it's worded, "what" means, what is the person trying to be.

My remark of parents (not just hers but any parent) being irresponsible came long after the bashing accusation. That's my opinon of certain parenting techniques but can hardly be called bashing in any sense. I'll give you "annoying" I do find her annoying. I find most kids annoying. Hence my questioning if this person was really a kid or just an adult doing a routine.

re: What is Sally Brown?

And can we get back to the serious concern at hand? I couldn't care less (she said parentally) who drinks coffee. Knock yourselves out. But I am concerned with young teenagers getting mixed up in threads that are clearly adult in nature. Or maybe they are NOT clearly enough adult in nature for a young teenager to recognize. Which isn't anything bad on Sally's part. And it happened to be Sally this time, but it's an ongoing phenomenon here. Last time it was someone else, and next time it probably will be, too.

I support a wide open age range for the Main Board which is intended for theater related discussions. You want to post about how awesome Shosh is, although I might roll my eyeballs, I still support your right to post it on a theater board. I enjoy reading many of the posts written by people under 21 on both the Main and the OT boards.

But it's becoming clearer to me by the minute why the anybody-and-everybody age range for any-and-every topic creates some very unsettling situations. I'm longing for that third board that will channel "adult" conversations in a direction away from the kids. The mixture that occurs now sometimes just isn't right.

Do I want an adult board so I can go talk dirty? No. It's not my style. But if the guys want to rehash fond reminiscences, be it about the movie or the art of cruising, they should be able to do it without having a kid wander in. Hell, even *I* would hesitate to post in that thread because I don't belong in that discussion.
