Mr. Diamond, (aka “Rob”)
This letter is in response to the “Temporary Access Ban” that was imposed on my account this past Saturday evening.
My complaint is simple:
You and your associates, Craig and Jose, happily use the “no foul language” and “no personal attacks” excuse to yell at, warn, ban, etc. any person that you decide to.
My problem is how this policy is not equally imposed on all board members.
I have repeatedly been called “racist”, “Nazi”, “asshole”, etc. without any bans, temporary or otherwise being dealt to the offenders.
I ask you, is this fair?
Certain board members, especially FindingNamo and CurtainUp2, have taken it upon themselves to follow me from thread to thread and do nothing but spew out insults towards me, yet nothing has happened to them.
I ask you, is this fair?
This board likes to chant the mantra “It’s OK to have an opinion”
Well, that’s true if your opinion is the right one, or should I say the LEFT one.
I express my opinion, then people attack me, then I tell them what I think of them, then I get warned. But of course, nothing happens to them.
I ask you, is this fair?
Frankly, I believe one reason for my 48 hour ban was due to the fact that you were upset that I pointed out that the advertisements on the right hand side of the screen had gotten wider. Incidentally, I notice they’re back to their prior width.
I’m sure that if you were to ban me permanently there would be a number of members of the board that would give each other some sort of cyberspace high-five due to their triumph over me. Now if you could look yourself in the mirror afterwards and say “I acted fairly” then go ahead and ban me. Frankly my dear, I don’t give a damn.
Incidentally, before you start shooting-off your mouth about me including your address and phone number on this thread, I just want to say that you took no steps to make such information secret as I found it at http://www.wisdomdigital.com/pr1.cfm, which happens to be the second listing when one googles “Wisdom Digital”
Sincerely,
RodneyK
p.s. To all my “opponents” out there: Before you start all your “stop whining”, “it’s their board they can do what they want”, etc. rants keep in mind that I don’t give a crap.

Streep's performance in SOPHIE'S CHOICE is magnificent, of course, but the template for that performance is Falconetti's in THE PASSION OF JOAN OF ARC.
Runners-up: Liv Ullman in FACE TO FACE
Kim Stanley in THE GODDESS
Olivier in OTHELLO

I've gotta add a few that have not been mentioned:
-Cate Blanchett in Elizabeth (or Veronica Guerin, or The Missing, or...anything for that matter)
-Sir Ben Kingsley in Ghandi, Schindler's List, and House of Sand and Fog
-Marlon Brando in Streetcar Named Desire
-Dustin Hoffman in Kramer vs. Kramer
-Jim Carey in Man on the Moon
-Jimmy Stewart in The Philadelhia Story

I agree with a lot of the names mentioned here, but wanted to add one performance that just amazed me.
Victoire Thivisol in Ponette

Magruder,
Is Thivisol the little girl? That performance was so real that it creeped me out and made me wonder seriously whether there was some serious emotional child abuse going on behind the scenes. Nevertheless, one the greatest raw performances I've ever seen.

All this talk about Sophie's Choice. I know I saw it, but I honestly can't remember a thing about it. Guess I'll have to pick it up again... I'll also have to get Ponette. I'm intrigued about that performance. Magruder and Margo - How do you think her performance compares to Keisha in Whale Rider? I was simply blown away by that girl.
Good choices Magruder. I loved Ma Vie en Rose and Welcome to the Dollhouse. Another I would add was the little boy, Andrei Chalimon, from Kolya. The scene of him in the bathtub trying to talk to his dead mother on the phone was one of the most heartbreaking moments I've ever seen.

There's no comparison -- the little girl from Ponette is just frighteningly real and raw, dealing the death of her mother. And she's only 4 (that's why I wonder whether she was manipulated behind the scenes). But, it's not a gimmick, she's really acting and is the one driving all the scenes with the adults. Just miraculous.
And definitely check out Sophie's Choice again. I saw it when it came out 20 years ago and perhaps once since, but its indelibly seared into my memory.

Thanks Margo! I will rent both films this weekend. I should probably pick up Camille, too. I've never seen it. *blush*

I thought that kate winslet and jim carey were great in Enternal Sunshine for the Spotless mind (I also think that the complex storyline would intruige the aliens if sent into space
) YET, the girl from that cheerleading movie, and the hobbit could have done better, much better.
Also... Robin Williams in "hook" with Dustin Hoffman was excellent.
Neither of these are classics, but I haven't seen to kill a mocking bird lately (i should watch it soon though, it's been a long time and I should check out the one that MargoChanning was talking about [sorry to say that i can't remember the name, i shall look it up])

Spencer Tracy and Judy Garland can do no wrong in my book when it comes to screen acting. Check out their last performances --
-- Spencer in Guess Who's Coming To Dinner (watch that last speech and you realize the guy was a powerhouse)
-- Judy in I Could Go On Singing (watch that LONG monologue on the phone near the end -- all done in one take.)
But for a contemporary (living) actor: Meryl. God was she good as Ma Pitt.
