Everything is better in a crock pot! Nothing like getting home from work on a snowy day and smelling dinner!
My grocery store had pot roast on sale so I bought a cheap one, cut it into chunks and dumped it in the pot. I added a bag of baby carrots, an onion cut in chunks and a pound of mushrooms (I left them whole but sliced or quartered is fine too). Add a couple garlic cloves (Crack them on your cutting board with the heel of your hand) some pepper and a can of beef stock and put on the lid and let it simmer on low till you're ready for it.
Stir in about a half cup of water mixed with 3 tablespoons of flour and let it simmer another 5 minutes or so- I like it THICK!
Dump it on potatoes, noodles, biscuits, stale bread. Tomorrow night, you can reheat it (it's better old!) and add some frozen peas or canned tomatoes if you need some extra stretching, or toss in some barley and another can of stock or two to make it soup!
I'm taking my leftovers, adding in peas and corn and making it into shepherd's pie!

Having friends over for homemade pizza tonight. Four varieties: plain, pepperoni, mushrooms/onions, and garden (spinach, broccoli, black olives, and whatever other veggies I have lying around in my fridge). I started making my own pizzas a month ago and have become addicted--haven't ordered take-out pizza since.
I'm also toying around with a big salad and, of course, a few bottles of wine.
Joe, I received a crock pot for Christmas and haven't had the opportunity to use it yet. Your post makes me want to start using it right away. Maybe tomorrow night.

Posted: 1/26/10 at 3:12pmI love making pizzas. So simple and so tasty. My favorite is a "sauce" (in place of red or white sauce) made from olive oil, red wine vinegar, shallots, garlic, lemon juice, salt and pepper. Top with shrimp, parmesan cheese, chopped red onion and capers.

Posted: 1/26/10 at 3:15pmThat sounds wonderful, Matt, and I happen to have most of those ingredients in my fridge already. I may have to try it tonight.

Posted: 1/26/10 at 3:52pmThat does sound good Matt. I'm much more into the sauce than the cheese on pizza. In fact, I"d rather have no cheese pizza! A nice foccacia is good sometimes.

That's some damn good pizza, T4! I haven't been there in a few years, but only have the very best memories. I used to go there every week for years! The location ain't the best, though! lol

So, AC what time should we all be over? I'll bring wine......
We make our own pizzas usually on Fridays. I usually make mine with pepperoni, kalamata olives, and fresh basil. Hubby usually adds mushrooms and onions to that for his, and Henry just has cheese. If I'm feeling ambitious I make a salad too.
But sometimes I just want a good old fashioned greasy take out pizza.
