"The Grapes of Wrath" with Henry Fonda - one of my all-time favorite movies.
Oh, and that just reminded me: "Twelve Angry Men"
And I can't believe no one has mentioned "His Girl Friday" yet - Cary Grant & Rosalind Russell in maybe the ultimate fast-paced screwball comedy.

Any feature or short made by pre-MGM Buster Keaton. I love that man oh-so-much. Personal favorites are "Steamboat Bill, Jr." and "Three Ages."
Non-BK favorites include "Citizen Kane" (Orson Wells was unstoppable), "It's a Wonderful Life" (what can I say? I'm sentimental), "Ed Wood" (okay, so this is kind of cheating), and "Freaks" (Johnny Eck, the Half Boy, rocks my face off, and I love Daisy and Violet Vilton).

Oh, so many, but here goes:
Arsenic and Old Lace
Key Largo (saw this again last week. Forgot how terrific it was!)
The Uninvited (Has the song "Stella By Starlight.")
The Haunting (Still creepy after all these years)
Portrait of Jenny
Citizen Kane
Casablanca
Scarlet Street (Love Miss Bennett and Mr. Robinson!)
The General (See a restored print of this Buster Keaton gem!)
There are probably a million more, but these came immediately to mind.

"It probably doesn't surprise you because everyone loves the movies they grow up with."
OK, Pop - that had me laughing really hard.

Broadway_Baby, not sure what you mean, but THE WIZARD OF OZ has always been in B&W & Color, even before they remastered it. Going all the way back to 1939. It was filmed that way.
I notice that a lot of people didn't pick a favorite, but listed a bunch of films. I really love way too many B&W films to pick a favorite (probably as many as the color ones I like); but if there was a gun to my head and I had to pick one, I'd say THE MIRACLE WORKER.

I, too, belong to that group of "old" people who think that REAL movies are the ones filmed in black and white. (I showed my 18-year-old students a B&W film and when the first scene appeared they moaned, "Oh man! This is in black and white? That sucks!")
Besides everything mentioned, the B&W films that come to mind that I particularly love are--
Children of Paradise
Jules and Jim
Shoot the Piano Player
The 400 Blows
Rules of the Game
The Third Man
Alice Adams
Born Yesterday
Bob Le Flambeur
Breathless (the original, of course!)
L'Atalante
8 1/2
I have to stop now or I never will.

Justme - GREAT breakdown! But I can't believe ALL ABOUT EVE isn't on there somewhere - especially since you posted the list on this site
One I didn't see mentioned that I'll throw out there because of it's cinematography is Orson Welles' OTHELLO.
But, as Brendan put it, if I had a gun to my head I'd say ALL ABOUT EVE (followed VERY closely by SUNSET BOULEVARD!)

I KNEW I would leave out something important and pay for it later!! Now how in the hell did I miss that one? I sat there thinking about theater movies in black and white for quite a spell, and the one Bette Davis one I kept harking back to was one she did in the early forties where she was married to her co-star (in the movie). I couldn't come up with the title, so I moved on!
