Anyone else feel like they're being forced to choose between two simultaneous passions?
With me, those two passions are filmmaking (obviously) and acting.
Hmm...while I'm not being forced to choose at this moment, I've been forced to make difficult decisions between two groups (competition theatre and math team) throughout my high school career. Theatre has won out most of the time. But I guess I AM kind of going back and forth between getting a degree in something other than theatre so that I have a solid plan in life. Yes, my teachers' words have penetrated my brain.
But, good luck choosing. =]
political science and theater...but hey, it might make me a better attorney in the future.

I'm currently double-majoring in Acting and History, with a Literature minor.
It's not so much a passion for me but I'm being split between Hockey and Theatre. Theatre is my passion, but Hockey is the "family sport" my dad coaches my mom plays and twin sister plays and my older sister is on a full scholarship for it and I'm playing but I don't have the guts to say i don't want to anymore.

Both theatre AND filmmaking are my passions. I assume I could possibly make this work, but they're so wildly different that they may tear each other a part.
Mine was choosing between majoring in Cello Performance or Musical Theatre. I chose MT but I am still taking cello lessons and have been in orchestra at school.
My other passion is religion. And when I have a passion about something, I really dive right into it and want to know everything about the topic at all times. It's really hard to put 100% into two things.
in 9th grade i had to choose whether to pursue competitive tennis fulltime, or theatre...and i made my choice

Aside from MT, I am really interested in and love learning about religion. So if I get rejected from the BFA MT programs I'm interested in, that's most likely what I'll study. History, English, and Psychology really interest me too.

I had to choose between Musical Theatre, the love of my life. My passion above all things on this earth, or Opera... the thing that I'm better at, and I'll have more success in in the future.
I chose Opera.
But I do want to perform Musical Theatre... it's just Opera is what's right for me right now. I can't dance, I can't belt properly, I'm overweight, but I've got a slammin' Operatic voice.
I know nothing about Opera, and just about everything about Musical Theatre. I've never seen an Opera, I don't own a recording of any opera... I'm delving into a world I don't know about.
I love to sing, and if Opera is what is going to get me to perform... then let's just hope I made the right decision.
Hopefully, this fortune teller I saw was right about me having more success and fulfillment in Opera...

Consider yourself lucky, LilMiz, at least you get to perform without fear or anxiety. Anytime I step onto a stage, there is a little voice in my head saying "You're a ****ing filmmaker. What are you doing?!?"
I would takle being a filmmaker and an actor as a good thing, each can work off the other and you can use what you lkearned in each to create great films or be great on stage, or act really well in your films,
My passions are Writing and Theater, thatnkfully these passions can mesh well together
My passions are theatre and political journalism, although I've pretty much decided to pursue journalism as my career and just be a theatrical spectator.

I guess it's just a feeling of "Your best work in the theatre is done from the audience seat" for me. I so want to perform but I just lack the confidence to.
Marlene, I am the same way. I love politics, so I am pretty sure that I'll be majoring in Political Science. Although, my passion for theatre is very strong, and there are times when I really don't think I could do anything else.
Then I remember that I can't dance.
My junior year of high school I was back and forth between Criminal Justice and Theatre. I applied to schools under Criminal Justice and decided on theatre in...April/May of my senior year. haha. But I am incredibly happy in the program i'm in so totally last minute and it's perfect for me.

i understand completely. i have to make a major decision beween dropping the full-time theatre and getting the job so i can continue karate, which is amazing. right now i am trying to find a compromise. i already know school is going to have to adjust (less college level classes) but it's really how each passion affects you.

I was a cheerleader for 9 years, and when I was a freshman, my schedule was extremely busy. It came down to what I wanted to do: theatre or cheerleading. It was a difficult decision, but I chose theatre.

I havn't made the choice yet, but next year I have to make the choice between staying with the theatre company i'm with, or dancing more seriously.

i pity your decision, mel_2213, but they're at least both performance choices. has anyone else thought of compromising, because maybe then you don't have to completely give up either passion.
