I woke up at 2:00pm today. See what U of T is doing to me? After a month of all-nighters, 15-page essays, making deadlines and cramming for three-hour exams where you need to go to the washroom after the first hour, I needed the rest.
BlueWizard, I feel forgetting you're at UT! I keep thinking you're at York or Queen's w/ Judy. Yeah, folks, BlueWiz ain't kidding. UT is notoriously tough (and expensive!). Yeah, UT is rediculously tough, especially for science/engineering students (I'm in a English/Computer Science double-major, so I get some of that stress). I know some people who virtually live at the library: they spend most of their four undergraduate years studying in the stacks and don't go out to see the sun.
The novelty of sometimes having a "celebrity prof" wears off pretty quickly. However, once in awhile you can't help but appreciate the breadth of courses available. UT is expensive, but not that much higher than the other universities in Ontario. I'm so jealous that the BC tuition rates are so low!
UT undergraduates get screwed over because the university's main focus is its graduate school - that's where UT's strength lies. Most people entering UT were graduated at the top of their high school class with an A to A+ average, but because of the insistence of a bell curve, people leave UT with a C+ average. This makes it very hard to compete to get into graduate school -- including UT's. The irony is that many people could have gotten a much higher GPA studying elsewhere, and could have taken that mark and gotten into UT's grad school. This is the frustration of many undergrads here: we get a top-quality education, but what do we do with it?
UT recently (and infamously) increased the law school tuition to $20000 (!!!), to compete with the Ivy Leagues. (For Americans reading, an average Canadian undergrad tuition is usually $4000-5000/year, due to government subsidies). The increase is forcing a lot of other law schools to follow suit.
