re: When Your GPA Is Low...

WOW. Gone for a day and my post explodes in replies.

Everyone has a higher GPA than me. I have a 2.52. JUST enough to stay at the school. JUST barely enough to keep my scholarships.
"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

re: When Your GPA Is Low...

Guys, we need to specify if this is college or high school! It's confusing otherwise!

BlueWiz, not all schools are out of 4. (Which is a real pain in my ass since my school's out of 4.33.) And the percentage-to-letter grade-to GPA point ratio are all totally inconsistent, which has made applying for law school a real pain in my ass!! SFU is out of 4.33. UVic is out of 9 (WTF??) - I think U of A is also. Most are out of 4 or 4.33 but there's no standard and it's driving me CRAZY!!!

Sorry, I needed to rant. I look at how much the US students have to pay and I'm really thankful! I know a few of the universities even make you provide bank statements etc to prove you're able to pay your way through the first year or so! Ouch.

Is financial aid readily available in the States?

re: When Your GPA Is Low...

Uh...depends on what you mean by readily available. If you really have no money, the government can help you, and your college will probably help, too. If you're middle class, you can get loans, and your college might help. A lot of times really good colleges with humongous endowments don't give all that much financial aid compared to their less-prestigious counterparts. Probably because they know they'll get plenty of applicants regardless. It's the not-so-well-known colleges that give financial aid more readily, as an incentive.

In the end, it's really the middle class getting screwed by the system. The very poor can come close to getting a free ride, and the rich...well, they're rich. They don't really need to worry. If you're in the middle, that's too bad for you.

I'm in high school. 4.429 out of 4.0, or technically 4.5, since that's the highest I could get if I got all 100's in every subject.
