Doesn't she also have a 3-year-old? She's probably concentrating on motherhood right now.
Why is it that when female actors have children, the default answer for why they're not working is that they must be concentrating on motherhood?
I never hear anyone say that male actors aren't working because they must be concentrating on fatherhood.

A click for life.

I loved her in Mad About You. That was one of the best cast sitcoms, ever.
I recently watched the one with Mel Brooks as Uncle Phil in hospital, brilliant.
I wish they would have released the entire cache to DVD.
I find her subsequent movie appearances mediocre at best.

Nothing can beat the chemistry of the Mad About You cast. Even in the early episodes it was like they'd all been working together for years.
Amazing that it's been off the air for almost 10 years.

Gee, I hated Mad About You. The only person more smug than Helen Hunt on that show was Paul Reiser! Eeeewwwww!!!
I also hated the unlikeable and obnoxious cast of Murphy Brown, another show at which they were always throwing awards.

Posted: 3/30/08 at 11:05amWell, speaking of obnoxious and unlikable casts to whom awards were constantly thrown, EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND takes that cake!

No Helen Hunt thread would be complete without...
#38re: Where the hell is Helen Hunt?
Posted: 3/30/08 at 11:31amShe was absolutely fantastic (and Oscar-worthy) in As Good as It Gets. I also loved her smart and sexy work in What Women Want.

Yea, her new movie looks AWESOME! What a change of pace!
Groundbreaking! Career defining! I can see the reviews now!
Helen Hunt, Matthew Broderick and Bette Midler MAY (note I say MAY) be fine individually, but put them all together and that is one huge bag o' tricks.

It looks entertaining, but you're right - more of the same from the entire cast.
Luckily, I find Hunt, Midler, and Firth extraordinarily watch-able, so I know I will enjoy the film...but.....
#42re: Where the hell is Helen Hunt?
Posted: 3/30/08 at 4:49pmIt looks entertaining enough. I'm a sucker for Broderick and Firth so I'll watch.
#43re: Where the hell is Helen Hunt?
Posted: 3/30/08 at 5:10pmI used to like Broderick, but he seems to have fallen into a trap he can't get out of. He's so uptight in everything, everything he says is so one-note, I just can't get into him anymore.

Posted: 3/30/08 at 6:14pmI remember one critic describer her performance in Twelfth Night as resembling a bird trying to peck it's way out of a box with its beak.
#45re: Where the hell is Helen Hunt?
Posted: 3/30/08 at 6:47pmHere is a perfect example of two actors (Hunt and Broderick) who were BETTER when they were younger and just starting out. They came from show biz families and of course that gave them a little leg up, but they were so unguarded and brave back then. Now they are just kind of sad and lazy.

She was in Dallas recently for opening night of the AFI film festival. "Then She Found Me" screened as the festival's opening-night film.

Posted: 3/30/08 at 9:27pmYeah, I don't often agree with John Simon, but his assessment of her in "Twelfth Night" ("Helen Hunt is as bad as it gets") was dead-on. She didn't seem to realize it was a Shakespearean COMEDY. She was doing all this noble head-tilting and jaw-thrusting as if she thought she were playing Julius Caesar. And being surrounded by inspired farceurs like Kyra Sedgwick and Paul Rudd just made her look worse.
#48re: Where the hell is Helen Hunt?
Posted: 3/30/08 at 9:42pmThat movie looks like a SNOOZE FEST.

Where was the director? That doesn't really sound like all the blame could be put on her. It's sort of the reason directors exist.
I loved Helen Hunt in Mad About You and As Good as It Gets. I thought she totally deserved her Oscar and her Emmys.
