My problem with my name is that my first, middle, and last name are all really common. I wouldn't mind having such a common first name if my last name wasn't so common, or probably about half of people with middle names didn't have the same initial (J). I especially started to resent my name this year in chorus, where out of about 14 guys, 5 have the same first name as me. And two girls had the same last name as me last year! Whenever I here someone on the street calling my name, and I turn around and there's nobody I know anywhere near me, I think "Thanks a lot, Mom and Dad. You couldn't have been more creative?"
Anyone else unhappy with their given name for similar or other reasons?

I, Butthead Cornhole Sodomite have indeed resented my unfortunate moniker.
oh joe, that really should have been your BWW name!!
it's not that the name my parents gave me is bad in any way... it's actually a very nice, although somewhat common, name (lauren)
the problem is that everyone thought i was a girl just because i was born with a va-jay-jay, and named me with that in mind.
but what's kind of cool is that when i came out, my mom actually chose ther name i go by now! (paxton)

Abba, I didn't realize your mom chose your new name as well. That's really cool.

I, Ethel Thayer, have thuch...I mean SUCH a resentment.
My name annoys me because of the amount of people who reference "Gilligan's Island" when they find out my name. What's funny is that I don't even spell my name the same way as Mary Ann from that show.
I'm gonna be an Ethel. I liked my name growing up, but I see no one with my name under the age of 30...which means I'm going to be an Ethel.

That's really sweet, abba!
And Marianne, one time when I youtubed my name, I found that I have the same first and last name of a character on a popular TV show AND some sort of celebrity. Oops...
yup. i told her i wanted a name that was androgynous, but not common... so not like sam or alex or chris... she chose paxton, but she usually calls me pax. i chose my middle name to honor my late grandfather, edward. edward is also a family name that has been passed down from generation to generation. because of that, i asked my mom for permission to have that as my middle name, and she said it was a great middle name for me because i was very very close to my grandfather.
so my name has part from my mom's side of the family (edward), part from my dad's side of the family (my last name) and part that's all me (paxton)
=]
Paxton = coolest name of the year.
As most people on here know I am perfectly happy with my name Charles Oswald Manson.
My first name is ridiculously popular and my last name is ridiculously bizarre. I don't resent it, but I experimented with weird, weird names in elementary school, like 'Giorge,' 'Fredd,' and 'Watson.' (Don't ask.) They didn't really catch on.
Really? I think Schmerg is very popular. I know at least 6.

I like my name. My sister always resented my parents for not giving her a middle name, though. She felt so incomplete!
I used to despise my name -- Marvin! Nobody else I knew had it, and I was often called Marvin the Martian, Starvin' Marvin, Messy Marvin, Marvin Gay (no E), etc. But the worst was when people mistakenly called me Melvin. Yuck!
Anyway, when I was adopted I begged my parents to change my name to something more "American," like Michael. I liked that name. But they refused, saying they wanted me to keep the name my birth mother gave me. (I was named for Marvelous Marvin Hagler.)
Oh boy, this is right up my alley. Where should I start? First of all, my mother made up my first name and NO ONE gets it right even though it's not difficult. Second of all, when she named me she had no idea that my initials spelled out something awful. In fact, I had my middle name legally changed a few years ago. And third, we had our family last name changed when I was six, and my mother again made it up. People have trouble with it even though it has four letters.
I like my first name but no one pronounces it right.
I had a friend named John Smith. He hated it. He dropped the H and went by Jon Smith to be different.
Tazber-- my last name ain't Schmerg. My real last name is something unspellable and unpronounceable. Schmergo was my childhood imaginary friend's name (a space alien/centaur mix) and my nickname when I was little.
I was named after my dad. Because of this, his medical records and credit problems gets mixed up with mine ALL THE TIME. Hate it.
My name is slightly old-fashioned. I think it's also more popular in the US than the UK, 'cos I can never find souvenir pens or keyrings with my name on anywhere over here, but there's plenty in NYC. XD I was always the only one of me in my class at school, but any hobbies I partook in that involved middle-aged women would usually see two or three of us. I started abbreviating it when I hit 18 (it took me that long?!) and I'm cool with it now. But I didn't like it at all when I was younger, and there's still a teeny irrational part of my brain that believes I would be prettier if I'd been given a proper flowery girly name. XD
Resent is a very strong word for what I feel, but it did take me a while to come to terms with it.

I also have an extremely common name and I hate it. All three of my names are actually extremely common. And bwaylvsong, my middle initial is also J! Even on facebook there are 500+ people with my name (that's the largest number they tell you). It's so frustrating.
My first name is moderately common and ridiculously Irish and I hate it. My last name is utterly impossible and French Canadian. My middle name is Ellen, and I used to hate it until my mother told me the story behind it. Now I'm very proud to have it.
I liked my first name, though everyone always tried to shorten it (I finally gave up fighting that). And like Weez, I could never find my name on souvenir key rings, except in the shortened version.
But I was always mortified by my middle name.
Whether it was intentional by my parents or not, all of our names begin with the same letter- that included my sister and my first pet Charlie the gold fish.
Resentment is a little extreme but I thought it was pretty corny in my case. I resent the dozens of different spellings of my name. Even my parents who named me after a film character gave me a different spelling. I still like my name, however.
