Who is Mary-Ethel?

And how many "What is the best..." will he/she be allowed to clog up the main board with?

re: Who is Mary-Ethel?

Don't be a wet blanket Jon...nobody is forcing you to read the threads...

re: Who is Mary-Ethel?

It's pretty obvious to readers of the old board that it's GARYSILVERMAN (and don't you forget it).

re: Who is Mary-Ethel?

Isn't Mary-Ethel the one that killed herself on the first episode of DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES???

re: Who is Mary-Ethel?

It could also be Mary Ethel McBride. I went to college with her and she had herpes.

Now even people who are contributing positively to the board are attacked?

Mary Richards and Ethel Mertz?

Mary Pickford and Ethel Waters?

Mary Please and Ethel Alcohol?

re: Who is Mary-Ethel?

Well, it's Mary Martin and Ethel Merman - DUHHUHHHHH - but that's ot what i was asking...

re: Who is Mary-Ethel?

His/Her posts are actually a nice change from what's been discussed these past few months on the Message Board. It's a chance to discuss Broadway history, instead of Wicked (or Brooklyn, for that matter).

I agree with Gov.
"The stage is where I live and come alive and act out all the things that go on in my life. It's not just what I do for a living, it's my shrink and my love affair. No one in my life has ever or ever will kiss me on the mouth like this lover called my relationship with my performance."

re: Who is Mary-Ethel?

This is, after all, a fan-based board. Fan in the old-school, positive sense of the word. We are devotees of an art form. Surely we can support any poster who embraces the theater with passion, commitment, a sense of personal investment. If we don't show up here for that, then what the hell are we doing here?

re: Who is Mary-Ethel?

I'm confused. So, you don't like a smart and knowledgable poster who starts provocative threads that inspires discussions of shows and performances that happened before Rent, Wicked and Brooklyn??? Um OK..............

re: Who is Mary-Ethel?

No Margo, Jon doesnt appreciate someone that AT LEAST has some interesting topics to bring to the boards. Some people should really put their money with their mouth is instead of clogging this board up with bullsh!t.

re: Who is Mary-Ethel?

Not at all Margo. It is just that this person does not just throw up a question, but rather 5, 6 or 7 random questions, that really don't add very much to any discussion. But that is just me.

re: Who is Mary-Ethel?

Mary Ethel also takes the time and effort to respond to each poster on the threads that s/he opens. It is nice to actually talk about theatre once in a while...

re: Who is Mary-Ethel?

mominator i beg to differ with you but Mary_Ethel's threads are some of the more popular ones on the main message board now and they are providing discussions between board members about musical theatre, what board are you looking at?

I thought that Mary-Ethel was the inbred child the Waltons kept chained in the barn.

WOW!

THIS IS LIKE BEING AT YOUR OWN FUNERAL!!!

Please allow me to quote Barbra Streisand when she received a negative review from a critic:

"Tonight I have your review in my hand; but tomorrow it will be gone and mean nothing."

Have a GREAT night, everybody! :)

re: Who is Mary-Ethel?

I have to say this makes me a little sad. I had pretty much had enough of the direction the off-topic board has taken, and was thrilled and delighted to see some discussions being started on the main board that were actually worth participating in. And as KMC pointed out (I had even PMed Mary_Ethel to thank him for this) there were actually responses given to the replies made to his posts. There was actual dialogue taking place - that wasn't accusatory, banal, rude, offensive - or any of the other things that seem to have become status quo around here for many people.

Obviously, the board will go in the direction that it is led. Apparently, simply having intelligent, engaged and respectfully thoughtful dialogue is worth the contempt of some - thankfully, not all. So, at the very least, I would like to offer to Mary_Ethel to PM me with any more of your thought-provoking questions - and that way we won't 'clog up' the board with our discussions.
