A Republican you've probably never heard of is starting to make gains in polls. Someone who has never even held office- Herman Cain.
The Republican party is showing real issues with their pool of candidates. Obama is in a weak position, but the Republicans are just as weak, if not weaker, with party fracturing and overall fickleness with their contenders. For whatever reason, they're not rallying behind Romney, their most viable candidate. They're leaping from one flash-in-the-pan to another.
Barone: Time to raise Cain to contender status
I think those who have held office have f*cked things up, rather nicely. I like Cain. A lot.
Are we playing $100,000 pyramid?
People who will never be elected President?
Pretty much, broadwaydevil. Cain campaigned in FL with a strong focus on not cutting SS. And since FL is god's waiting room, that's pretty much music to their ears. Hence the straw poll victory.
Whenever he opens his mouth he spits out all kinds of crazy. Otherwise known as Palinitis.
And running a successful pizza chain is a far cry from dealing with the enormously complex and multi-faceted issues that plague our economy. He's the flavor of the week.
However, in a field of potential candidates as weak as the current one, I suppose anything can happen.

More fiscal experience than a community leader and senator, whose only experience was campaigning for president.
Perhaps, but comparing him to Obama is not the issue here. My point here is that he doesn't have enough fiscal experience to secure the nomination from his own party.
The GOP candidates who are doing well are very weak. Their base loves them but how will Independents and undecided voters view them? Cain, Pery,Bachman,Romney, etc. Obama will wipe the floor with them in a debate. Then there is Christy, who has said numerous times 'He does not want to be President and his heart would really not be in to the job'. His answers and soudclips telling reporters why he does not want to run will be used in every campaign ad so I am praying he will jump into the race. Once he does the Tea Party will turn on Herman Cain.

Don't even start this crap. Barack Obama was the most inexperienced person to become POTUS. Herman Cain is currently more prepared at this moment to be POTUS than Obama is at this moment. Obama still hasn't learned from his on-the-job training.
Really, Goth? You're telling someone else "don't even start this crap"? Why, that's ALL YOU DO. Unless Obama waving in a group picture and implying that he's losing his mind is a real point of discussion.
Explain how Cain is more prepared. Saying it doesn't make it so.
And comparing him to Obama doesn't make it so either.
For the record however, I agree that Obama is on the wrong track with the economy - but that doesn't mean that Cain is any better.

"Explain how Cain is more prepared."
Obama can't even get Democrats to look at his jobs bill. The other day he had to beg them to approve it and send it back. He's ineffective as a leader. Cain has demonstrated leadership ability in the business world.
The fact is, the only reason you aren't on the "Cain is inexperienced" bandwagon is that he's NOT Obama, so Cain's complete inexperience with public office is different. In fact, it's a plus.
Perhaps, but comparing him to Obama is not the issue here. My point here is that he doesn't have enough fiscal experience to secure the nomination from his own party.
I guess that's true. I wouldn't know. I've no clue what the Republicans are seeking in a candidate. Nor the Democrats, for that matter. Given what we have in the White House and Congress, I'm confused. I can't imagine why anyone would want what we currently have? Most of it, is not what I'm looking for. Cain, at this very moment in time, would have my vote.
Cain is poised to be the next Joe the Plumber.
So they COULD hear the booing, despite the morning-after claims of the others.
...at least he admits it.
Oh Goth! Everyone here KNOWS your nuts! Cain has not held political office. Obama was in the senate and has been active in politics for years. Cain is a moron and you'll be trashing him once Christie enters the race so don't start this crap. You'll support and vote for whoever the Tea Party tells you to. Do not even pretend you are your own man and a free thinker. Puh-Lease!
"Oh Goth! Everyone here KNOWS your nuts!"
Speak for yourself. I don't particularly want to know his nuts.

Cain:

CEO of the National Restaurant Association
Former deputy chairman and chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City

Only the most stereotypical conservative Republican could pretend that Cain is a more qualified candidate.
Even on paper, I don't see anything pointing towards Cain as our next President. And let's not pretend to ignore which party is likely to have more voters bigoted against an African American President. The only reason this man is news is because this straw poll sounds like a freak accident, not because anyone believes he'll be the Republican candidate, much less the next President. He did make Godfather's Pizza finally become profitable...by closing over half its stores. Not sure that's a feather in his cap right now, but then again, it probably won't be part of his "campaign", either.
Didn't Cain say he would NEVER hire a Muslim for a cabinet position if he were elected President of the United States? ANYONE who would vote for someone who says that is nuts! THIS IS NOT something to be proud of. ANYONE who is this prejudice CAN NOT lead. However, I can easily see why the Tea Party like someone so hateful like this.
He seemed nice enough on Leno last week, but I'd say his book is deathly boring.
How certain is it that Obama will be the Democratic nominee? I know it's highly probable that he will be, but I can see Hillary making a sneak attack and challenging for the nomination if things keep going downhill for him and it looks as if Romney could potentially beat him. You never know. This constant electioneering is ridiculous anyway...2011 is not an election year. The whole GOP thing is far too drawn out - the election is over a year away, people.
Hillary, being the current Secretary of State, cannot run against Obama without resigning immediately. Yes, she's said she will not plan on continuing in her position if Obama is reelected, but that's a big difference from resigning now. Beside, Hillary is very "in" with the Democratic hierarchy, which does not want the mess of a primary challenge right now and will do anything in its power to prevent a challenger like Hillary from entering the race. Hillary, who may run for office in 2016, is not going to want to upset the powers that be in the Democratic party.
In summary...no chance she runs in 2012.
The GOP thing is drawn out? Obama hasn't stopped campaigning since he got the job! You're right, though, it's all too drawn out, and requires far too much money. Money ill-spent, imo. I believe there are far better people for political office in this country (there just HAS to be!), but they cannot afford to run. That should be changed. It shouldn't be about money.
