Sutton Foster as Elphaba? What do you think? .........Or maybe even G(a)linda?

Sutton does not have the stage personality/look to play Elphaba. One must look "hard" not sweet & demure.
Also, Sutton does not have the vocal capacity to play Glinda.

I definitely think Sutton could pull of Elphaba; she's just *that* talented.
Am I crazy, or was she involved in the Wicked workshops?

She did do the workshop but was in the ensemble. I think she could pull it off.

How about if we aged the two characters...
Marin Mazzie could be Glinda and Frances Ruffelle could be Elphie...
But really, La Chanze would be a better Glinda than Sutton. I think they should consider her. Or how about Anika Noni Rose?

She can do a lot more than sing well and belt, BSo. She's a great actress. And to be completely honest, the hardest thing about Elphaba is probably the singing, which Sutton can certainly pull off. It's not really a terribly complex role in terms of acting... as female roles go.
I'm not going to argue about this. It doesn't matter, because the chances that she'll do it are pretty damned slim, I think.

no, not so much you em...but others...
the same people who say jessica simpson as elphaba....
but the fact is, could she play it well? Just because it doesn't require difficult acting, doesn't mean an actor can't take the part to the max...that's what celebrates a good actor from a great one. also, can sutton keep doing the show day after day.

Sutton is amazing and when I first heard she was in a Wicked workshop thought she'd make a great Elphba. But when I met her, I realized she couldn't. She's too sweet and while I'm not saying Elphaba has to be mean, she's just not right for the part. She can handle it vocally, but Idon't think she would be believable as Elphaba acting-wise. And right now, she's too successful to be a replacement.

I know she's an actor. I haven't just seen her in Millie. I asw her in Snoopy (that's when I met her). I really just can't see her as Elphaba. Perhaps she could shock us all and make it work, but for now, she's just too cute and innocent.

How are you defining success? Little Women is her second starring role and who knows whether or not it will sink or swim.
There are plenty of "successful" actors who become replacements... you make it sound like it's a step down, so I'm just curious as to what you meant.

I don't know about Anika Noni Rose for G(a)linda... but she sure does need to be continuously employed in the New York theatre circuit... she's INCREDIBLE.

I'd rather see her as Peter Pan. Random, I know but I just watched the Martin telecast and then later listened to Millie. I think she's got the youth, charm, phycial ability freshness and voice.

Sorry about the "successful" comment. I'm still a bit new to Broadway (I'm only 13) so you're all right, you can't really define success. It just seems that the most famous of Broadway stars (I'm too scared to say successful) (ie. Bernadette Peters, Kristin Chenoweth) never seem to take replacement jobs.
