I have never seen it, I have heard the HOTs and the NOTs about this show on these posts. I'm seeing the Chicago cast Thursday night. Got tickets today. I guess Ben Vereen is the Wizard this week. I sort of wanted to see the Chicago cast intact. 5th row center. Wish me luck.
If you start to bleed.....stop.
And bring protection, you don't want any osmosis-transmitted diseases, aka OTD's.
I hope they are gentle with me. And maybe dinner afterwards.
Or.....dinner before and drinks after.
This MUST be your first.
Drinks first.
Cigs after.
Then, SLEEP!
I guess I'm in for a "Wicked" time. I know people dislike posts about this show. Had to do it. Actually looking forward to it.....my first time and all.
Oh, but It's so "popular". Don't worry, if I post a review, it will be a 1(one) liner.
HOT!
You'll love it. Too bad you won't see Gene as the Wizard..he's fantastic. But, I guess you can't complain if Ben Vereen is the replacement!
Enjoy and let us know what you think.
Don't be jaded! :P

I fell that I am betraying Gene today, but I reaaly want to see Mr. Vereen.
I enjoyed it very much. I have no other production to compare it to so this will be brief. Ana Gasteyer received cheers after every song that she sang. Kate Reinders was adorable and hysterical and has a beautiful voice. Ben Vereen was....good. Christopher Cusick is hunky and did very well as Fiyero. Telly Leung.....ok. Ensemble was excellent. House was packed and an immediate standing O at the end.

vb - Glad you enjoyed it. Was Carol Kane on as Morrible?

Chicago Stppenwolf legend Rhondi Reed is Morrible. I liked her.
Rondi Reed was Morrible, she was very good as was Heidi Kettenring as Nessarose.
Why is Ben Vareen in Chicago? Sorry if this is old news, but I've been out of my gossip:)!
vb, enjoy....it's a fun show. I do think anyone going should be required to read the book, FIRST.......but that's just me.
The book is much deeper and darker than the show, but....again, it's fun, I enjoyed it.
Just about to finish the book, and I'm loving it. I haven't seen the show, but from what I know about it and the music, it should say 'very loosely based on the book by Gregory Maguire.'
day, maybe a bit more than loosely.....but totally different ending
I can totally see it coming.
first 50 pages were tough.......but am glad I stuck with it
The sequal to the book comes out soon. Seeing the show for the 2nd time here in Denver on the 20th of this month. Stephanie J. Block is supposed to be back in the show when it opens here. Saw it last year in New York with the original cast. Fun show. Fun music.
Technically, the ending of the show isn't that much of a variation of the book's ending.
Albeit, everything before the ending is different...but, the book's ending is loose.

sorry this is really off topic-but i have to know.
why isn't nessa's song on the recording?
They didn't want to give any plot twists away on the recording.
